Rockstar releases GTAV app

Free iFruit app hits iTunes, allows users to stay up to date with Grand Theft Auto V news, train Franklin's dog Chop, and customize cars.

Rockstar Games today released an iOS app called Grand Theft Auto: iFruit, which taps into Grand Theft Auto V to "further postpone the need for real social interaction."

The app features GTAV news, connectivity with the Rockstar Games Social Club and LifeInvader, and also lets users launch other Rockstar Games apps.

In addition, the iFruit app taps into Los Santos Customs, allowing users to customize their in-game vehicle by tinkering with paint jobs, window tints, and suspension, among other features. Users can also create and reserve custom license plates for GTAV and Grand Theft Auto Online using the app.

The iFruit app also allows users to train GTAV protagonist Franklin's Rottweiler dog, Chop, through a feature called "Chop the Dog." Users can pet him, feed him, play fetch, and teach him tricks using the app.

Spending time with Chop using the app will be reflected in GTAV. Chop will be more helpful and responsive to Franklin and will perform tricks if properly trained using the app. Chop will also sniff out desirable items on walks if players train him using the app.

GTAV launches tomorrow, September 17, for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. For more on the open-world game, check out GameSpot's review.

nevermind android users, what about people who don't have smart phone at all and don't want one. it would be no hassle at all to make an app for the mac or pc, but they haven't and therefore I cannot train chop or change my license plate. this is beyond ridiculous.

rockstar alienates droid users

this article should read "ROCKSTAR GIVES MIDDLE FINGER TO DROID USERS"

If they had used Unity 3D, they could literally "File > Export" to Android/Windows 8/mobile/7/Linux...

And it could've had 3D graphics...

Well, social club seems so overloaded that using it for a while will be a problem.

What does it mean when Chop fetches you a speail package or a grenade? Does that mean you get a grenade or special package in the console version?

I can't use this app because the Rockstar social club won't link my game account -.-

@DJKrayz_basic MANY MORE people use Android, in fact. It's ridiculous how devs live in the past and keep focusing on iOS.

GTA and casual should never go together.

Rockstar y u no android!?

Seriously, it's quite annoying when the game keeps popping up with messages telling me I can do stuff with the app when the Android one isn't available yet.

The app is called iFruit and it mimics the iPhone interface. That's probably why it launched on iOS. Pretty funny. They will pull many jabs on Apple and the smart phone culture they created. You Android lovers/Apple haters should enjoy GTA V for that.

For all the whining people... please go look at the Rockstars Website for this precise information:

The iFruit Mobile Application Now available for iOS devices at the App Store. Coming soon for Android devices via Google Play as well as for Windows Phone, PlayStation Mobile and Vita.

Thank you, Rockstar, for leaving out a ton of fans who would love to get this app. Some of us prefer the Android OS and phones. I'm guessing Apple paid you guys off. Yay greed.

Rockstar didn't create a game. They created a universe.

OMG i went to see a vídeo on youtube, of 30 min., then I come back, and I had 11 updates from GTA V, so many things, what happened?

Good idea, but I do not use a smart phone. Presumably it will work on your laptop too?

Would anyone reading this be so kind to inform me if the GTA V review has any spoilers in it?

I want to read it but I do not want to discover something cool while doing so, only to take away from the game experience tomorrow.

I'm so tempted to click on it, but I just fear spoilers... lol pathetic eh? :)

I call this discrimination! What about Android platform? I think hundreds of thousand of players or even millions have Android smartphones and would love to have this app. And I'm one of these Android users that would like to have it too!

So, is it meant to be some kind of intentional statement about the majority of mobile games that it looks so sh*t?

If you can't achieve similar results by playing the actual game, then that's a very poor design decision.

@Naomii_xo I just managed to do it. Since it's so late at night the site is running much smoother and it took me a 2 minutes to do.

@Naomii_xo I had that problem. Sign in to Rockstar social club on the safari browser, then load the app. Also, switch from 4g to using your phones wi fi connect instead.

@DJKrayz_basic because the name ifruit looks a lot better than android fruit lol. plus the smart phone in game is called ifruit so it makes more sense to put on iphone.

@D_K I think the number of people starting to use it just killed the service

Ripper_TV

@Marcocs_14 Yeah, because Android is on the level with Vita, PS mobile, WP. Pffff. Devs are idiots.

SirNormanislost

@BrokenChaos666 actually im guessing its more to do with server testing by staggering the launch of the app android has a larger market share so the app store allows for a smaller test

and considering the service is offline after the launch of it the service wasn't ready

@punksterdaddy well it depends on how sensitive you are to spoilers, of course there are some minor spoilers but nothing major imo, if you really want to discover every little detail by yourself i would avoid it..

but here is the summary:

9/10

GTA V is an imperfect yet astounding game that has great characters and an innovative and exciting narrative structure, even if the story it uses that structure to tell is hobbled at times by inconsistent character behavior, muddled political messages and rampant misogyny. It also raises the bar for open-world mission design in a big way and has one of the most beautiful, lively, diverse and stimulating worlds ever seen in a game. Your time in Los Santos may leave you with a few psychological scars, but you shouldn’t let that stop you from visiting.

SteamyPotatoes
SteamyPotatoes

@Allurez only supports iOS 4.3 and up so it's pretty limiting and its not even that demanding, so annoying i can't even use it on an old iTouch, would prefer it on Nexus 7 still.

punksterdaddy
punksterdaddy

@Frexerik @punksterdaddy

Thank you and your summary will do me for now.

9/10 though? I never expected that score, I thought it would have been a 10/10.

Oh well, maybe that will shut the "Conspiracy Users," up for a bit. Since they claim that Rockstar have Gamespot in their pocket.

Hmmmm... actually... it probably won't, now I'm thinking about it more!  >_<

I'm not overly sensitive to spoilers, but major plot points and game mechanics etcetera, are a worry for a game I've been anticipating for ages to be ruined in such a way.

So again, thank you for taking the time to answer me. I appreciate it greatly.  :)
