Rockstar Games to release a PS4/Xbox One game by March 2015

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says he's "very excited" about what the developer is working on.

by

Rockstar Games, the subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive responsible for games like Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption, and L.A. Noire, will release a game for "next-gen" consoles during the company's current fiscal year. That means this game, presumably for Xbox One and/or PlayStation 4, will be released sometime before March 31, 2015.

Unfortunately, no other details about what this project could be were made available today. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said during a post-earnings financial call that he is "very excited about what [Rockstar Games] have in store for next-gen systems."

Could one of these projects be announced at E3 2014 next month? Historically, Rockstar Games does not attend the annual trade show, but Take-Two management didn't specifically say no when asked by an analyst today.

"At this point, Rockstar has not announced that they're going to be attending E3," Take-Two president Karl Slatoff said.

According to Take-Two, the Rockstar Games label will make up 45 percent of the company's total revenue in the coming year, which assumes the release of a major title. Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian believes GTA V will come to Xbox One and PS4 in 2014, but of course this is unconfirmed.

Take-Two posted record profit of over $500 million for its fiscal year ended March 31, helped by the massive success of GTA V, the company announced today.

Release date is too far out for a port of GTA.. That'll be out later this year, I'm hoping for a new Red Dead...

If they are going to wait almost another full year, and their games always get delayed so it'll probably be over a full year from now then they need to really pull out something amazing. While I would like to see sequels to some of their great games I would also like to see a new IP for next gen. Time will tell.. but if it's just them coming out with a GTAV port (while that would be great) it would be disappointing it's taken so long.

So much secrecy in video games, it just hurts the fans. If I were a developer I would just tell people if I was or was not working on a port of a game. It's not like it's taking away control over the game's marketing right?

If it is simply of port of GTA V to next gen, that would be an epic fail.

RDR is one of the top 3 games all time; if they can in any way duplicate that effort I could deal with the dearth of good offerings during 2013 and 2014.

I recon that they're gonna release EITHER a new IP OR Bully/Manhunt (one of the two).

Given that the game is expected to be released in early 2015, there is a fairly short development period and only a game like Manhunt can be produced to a high standard within that timescale because of how linear Manhunt games are. Or we could be wrong and perhaps Rockstar have already begun work on this post-GTA V, and so an open-world Bully 2 or something may be possible.

So Rockstar are releasing a game this year but we don't know what. And we don't know if they will be attending E3 this year.

Awesome journalism once more from Eddie. The man who gets the big stories!

"Rock star games to release a title for PS4/xbox one by March 2015"

And then the inevitable PC cries for GTA V........On OUR (console) thread! Listen, you may have chucked hundreds at your PC to make it the best (and in a couple of years you'll have to do it all again, while us console gamers are sorted for 8-10 years) but you STILL haven't got nor are getting GTA, money can buy you power but not Grand Theft Auto 5 rofl.

So sad that most commenters (and the article itself) are clamoring for a rehash instead of a new IP.

Bully 2 or a new IP. I'd be fine with a new Red Dead too but I get the feeling Rockstar wants to experiment more.

@Lord_Python1049  With so many changes, redesigns, cancellations, etc the gaming industry doesn't want to say too much about a game until it's set in stone. Even then sometimes the game gets cancelled or changed and we never see it. Don't get people invested until it becomes a real, sure fire thing.

Loser is what I believe you meant.. It seems the PC "master race" isn't so masterful at spelling.. Although you are just one individual of an entire group, so I guess I can't judge the entire "race"

@Pewbert  actually it's March 2015. What do you expect? A full release with trailer and gameplay footage? Someone mentions a small rumor/piece of information, and Gamespot, tells us what they know.

@mikees1

money can buy you a xbox 360 (and not very much money) being a snob make you miss out on new games before the hype train goes back into the tunnel of old games

themc_7

@Sevenizz  agreed. LA noire and Red dead were great, but part of what made them great was that they were new and interesting IPs. (I know red dead is actually sort of a sequel to RD Revolver, but nevermind that)

@steelmouth  Max Payne 3 fell short for fans of the series and in sales expectations. We may have seen the last of Max Payne.

@Kinguard73 @Keitha313  PC has thieves, Consoles have the used game market. Either way, Rockstar don't get any money from those gamers
