Ubisoft releases five-song pack including "Today," "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," and "1979."

Songs from alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins are now available as downloadable content for Ubisoft's guitar game Rocksmith 2014, the publisher has announced.

The Smashing Pumpkins DLC pack features five songs, including some of the band's most recognizable songs. These are "Today," "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," "1979," "Tonight, Tonight," and "Disarm."

The songs are available for $3 each or through the five-song pack for $12 today on PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and through Steam for PC and Mac.

Rocksmith 2014, a sequel to 2011's original Rocksmith, was released earlier this month. Its on-disc tracklist features 55 songs spanning numerous genres and eras.

All DLC purchased for the original Rocksmith is compatible with the new game at no extra cost.

Unlike in Rock Band or Guitar Hero, in Rocksmith, players can plug in a real guitar or bass with a standard quarter-inch jack directly into an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, or Mac. For more on Rocksmith 2014, check out GameSpot's review.

Can't wait to get my hands on this game, been playing bass for years but never been any good at guitar, this seems like a great way to learn!

Don't buy from UBISoft directly - turns out they have a no returns policy (so, if Steam runs horribly on your mac, you're out of luck...and some cash).

I read an interview a few years back before Activision killed Guitar Hero and Billy was asked if he played it and he's said "I am the guitar hero" haha slick.

Wow, haven't seen a photo of Billy in about 10 years......  The years have not been kind.

The track list isn't important. What IS important are the rumours of other instruments being implemented such as drums and keyboard!

All these songs could easily be added to the previous game - the thing that's going to get people to buy a sequel are new instruments.

@Scorpion1813 I hope they eventually add a proper singing mechanic too. Like it is now, the game just kinda acknowledges that you're singing... and that's it. Maybe adding something similar to Rock Band could be a good idea.
