The first event after Rocket League goes free-to-play will give you specific objectives to complete to receive rewards.

Rocket League has officially received its free-to-play update, and starting this weekend it'll get its first in-game event, Llama-Rama, that makes use of the game's new challenge system. It kicks off this Saturday, September 26, and features some crossover items and concepts with Fortnite.

Unlike past Rocket League events, Llama-Rama will offer Fortnite-style challenges to complete, with each offering a specific item as a reward. That includes a llama topper, antenna, and wheels for your vehicle of choice, but that pool of vehicles is also increasing--complete all of the challenges, and you'll unlock Fortnite's battle bus for use in Rocket League. You can see it in action in the trailer below.

Now Playing: Rocket League Llama-Rama Event Trailer

Llama-Rama begins on September 26 at 3 PM PT and runs through October 12. The Fortnite crossover is no coincidence, as Rocket League developer Psyonix was purchased by Fortnite maker Epic Games last year. It's unclear if this is a one-off event or if we'll see additional Epic Games collaborations in Rocket League in the future. We also don't yet know if this challenge-based event will become the norm moving forward.

Rocket League makes the leap to free-to-play on September 23, with existing players receiving Legacy Status, entitling them to some exclusive rewards. A big Rocket League update launched last week granting players those rewards and introducing cross-platform progression using Epic Games accounts. Rocket League also launches on the Epic Games Store on September 23, and claiming it between launch and October 23 will net you a $10 EGS coupon that can be used on games or DLC priced at least $14.99. Launching the game through EGS will also net you the Sun Ray Boost and Hot Rocks Trail items.
