Rock Band Spinal Tap-ped

Rerecorded versions of 11 songs from This Is Spinal Tap arrive next week for Wii, PS3, 360; new Black Sabbath and Foo Fighters DLC also available.

Last month, faux metal pioneers Spinal Tap released three new songs from their latest album, Back From the Dead, onto Rock Band for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii. But just like the bands they parody, most fans would rather hear the old stuff.

Not exactly the Jonas Brothers.

To that end, the band is offering a compromise. Next week's Rock Band downloadable content releases will include 11 songs from the original soundtrack to Rob Reiner's original mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap. However, the Rock Band tracks will be the rerecorded and reimagined versions of the songs included on Back From the Dead.

Next week will also see the Wii version of Rock Band continue playing catch-up, as two more track packs already available on the other editions of the game make their Nintendo downloadable debut. The original Black Sabbath three pack of covers will add sound-alikes of "N.I.B.," "Sweet Leaf," and "War Pigs" to the store, as will the entire Foo Fighters album The Colour and the Shape.

All songs will be available separately for $1.99 (160 Microsoft points, 200 Wii points), and the 11 Spinal Tap tracks will be bundled together on the Xbox 360 and PS3 as part of the "Tap Ten Pack" for $17.99 (1,440 Microsoft points). The full list of tracks follows below.

SillySkeleton Posted Jul 31, 2009 6:57 pm PT Spinal Tap?? Awesome! It's too bad that Rock Band doesn't have a piano peripheral, so we could play "Lick my Lovepipe". Its Lick my Lovepump!

It's part of a trilogy; a musical trilogy I'm working on in D minor which is the saddest of all keys, I find. People weep instantly when they hear it and I don't know why. You know, just simple lines intertwining, you know, very much like - I'm really influenced by Mozart and Bach, and it's sort of between those, really. It's like a Mach piece, really.

I couldn't listen to more than 30 seconds of the new version of Sex Farm. That was awful!

"This pretentious ponderous collection of religious rock band psalms is enough to prompt the question, 'What day did the Lord create Spinal Tap, and couldn't he have rested on that day too?' " But man - I sure wish it was the original tracks. The new versions are fun updates but they are no substitute for the classics.

They should have used the original recordings, not the lame do-overs. Flower People is NOT a reggae song! Anyone who has seen the movie knows this. Sex Farm as funk? Heresy!

Sadly this is the heaviest music available on these games, except for christian metalcore, which negates itself.

I got so excited when I saw "new Foo Fighters DLC"... but then it turns out it's just a rerelease for the Wii... how disappointing.

It should come packaged with a "Nigel Tufnel Special Edition Guitar Controller" that you can't look at, point to, or play! (Hopefully, those that have seen the film will get the reference)

@tremor33 Read the article. These songs ARE dlc. This is NOT Rock Band: Spinal Tap.

Spinal Tap is pretty sick. But why all the band themed GH and RB? Why not just make this all DLC? Are we really expected to spend another 60 bucks on another installment of RB in this economy?

where is Nigel's three part trilogy in D Minor: "Lick My Love Pump"? What a travesty for that amazing song to be left off of the list :(
