Rock Band DLC boxed for PS2, Wii

Track Pack Volume 1 arrives in stores July 15 with 20 songs for $30; artists include Boston, David Bowie, Weezer, and more.

From day one, downloadable content was a core focus for Harmonix's Rock Band. However, only the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game have supported downloadable content, much to the chagrin of those who purchased last year's PlayStation 2 version of the game, as well as those who plan to purchase the Wii edition when it launches next month.

However, the music cannot be stopped. Harmonix announced today that it is bringing downloadable content to the Wii and PS2 versions of Rock Band, just not in downloadable form. Instead, gamers will be able to buy a disc from retailers containing songs previously released as downloadable content for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1 will include 20 master tracks from 20 different artists, and will retail for $29.99 when it launches July 15.

The full list of included tracks follows:

30 Seconds to Mars--"The Kill"
All American Rejects--"Move Along"
Blink – 182--"All the Small Things"
Boston--"More Than a Feeling"
David Bowie--"Moonage Daydream"
Faith No More--"We Care A Lot"
Grateful Dead--"Truckin'"
The Hives--"Die, All Right!"
KISS--"Calling Dr. Love"
Lynyrd Skynyrd--"Gimme' Three Steps"
Nine Inch Nails--"March of the Pigs"
Oasis--"Live Forever"
Paramore--"Crushcrushcrush"
The Police--"Synchronicity II"
Queens of the Stone Age--"Little Sister"
Ramones--"Teenage Lobotomy"
Smashing Pumpkins--"Siva"
Stone Temple Pilots--"Interstate Love Song"
Weezer--"Buddy Holly"
Wolfmother--"Joker & the Thief"

While i was at NW, NYC, the EA rep. said that there will be a Rock Band channel feturing DLC that we can buy with points by the end of the summer. And there will be an update for online play by the end of the year.

This is better than download content because download content will be stored on your wii and this will be on your disk. you would only be able to get 1 or 2 songs with the wiis small memory

I'm buying this just for "More than a feeling"

I don't know how many times we have to say it... The Wii has a 512mb FLASH hard drive. Meaning if they DID implement DLC then you'd be able to download a few songs, this way you get ALOT more. Kudos to Nintendo for screwing the Wii over yet again.

Great idea, but they need better songs. there's only five or 6 im intewrested in, so its not worth thirty bucks. Maybe if the price drops in a few months.....

MCR? "very tough"? what, you mean some power chords and some whiney, angst-ridden lyrics?

I am so psyched about this release! Although, they'd better put "Hysteria" by Muse in the next track pack! That's my favorite song ever!

30 dollars is overpriced- 15 or 20 bucks would be sweet, or- 1$ per song! that makes sense

@DiabloNeonX: "You can't put DLC on a removable format like a SD Card because 360 and PS3 owners would cry foul because our save files are copy protected, and what's to stop someone from pirating DLC for the Wii." I bet the MP3's you transferred to your Xbox are pirated anyway.

DiabloNeonX
DiabloNeonX

Don't you people get it? There will NOT be DLC for the Wii because the dinky little hard drive in the Wii is not big enough. If Nintendo cranked out a Wii with a 20GB or 40GB hard drive, then DLC would be possible. Be grateful they're making the disc available for $30. If you'd bought the DLC online, you would have paid $40 for just the songs alone. That's not counting the cost of pressing the DVD. You're actually saving money. Besides, the reason Wii owners are getting a stripped down version of Rock Band is because the Wii is really nothing more than a beefed up GameCube with motion sensor technology. It simply does not possess the power necessary to run a "full" version of Rock Band. You can't put DLC on a removable format like a SD Card because 360 and PS3 owners would cry foul because our save files are copy protected, and what's to stop someone from pirating DLC for the Wii. Good job HMX. A DLC expansion disc is a good alternative for the PS2 and the Wii.

I hope these songs (by the Smashing Pumpkins) get released: Zero, 1979, Ava Adore, Today, Mayonaise, I Am One, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, The Everlasting Gaze, Tarantula or 7 Shades Of Black. Those songs would be really fun to play in Rock Band.

Pretty cool I would have preferred dlc for wii but this a pretty good alternative. Great job Harmonix any other developer would just give up. And it's called Track Pack Volume 1 so there will most likely be more to come. But come on, $30 for 20 songs? It should be more like $20 or $25 tops. I'm still gonna buy it definitely. Hopefully Volume 2 will have "Saints of Los Angeles."

So need to buy five rock band games instead of downloading the songs you want ?

This is an awesome idea, but I think they should release the tracks by artist or genre instead of mixing them up. It would be better for people who appeal to a certain band or type of music (like me).

That is **** awesome! i dont care if theres songs that i dont know. because ill probably grow to like them eventually. and theres a good 6 songs i would love in there, so im glad...

Man I glad I finally bought a PS3 and bought that version. I dont this really makes up for the missing content that the other versions have. But this is great news for the Wii or PS2 owners.

I have absolutely no interest in any of the above songs (well, maybe a couple of them). And you expect me to pay $30 for it? Forget it! Why can't the Wii have DLC, so we may choose INDIVIDUAL SONGS???

Shaymojack
Shaymojack

Why would they not set up a Wii DLC anyways? This is a good idea for the PS2, but completely pointless for the Wii.

thats kinda stupid they would b loosing money we could go to friends and they play it to with out them buying it

I think you just load the disc and it saves it on top of your save data or something...maybe. It'd be better if they released the Track Packs by genre or by band or something.

i dont understand, so you buy the song packs and install them onto your game?

Nice idea but fails because you end up getting a heap of songs you don't even want. The whole point of rock band is that you can build up a set list of the type of music you like. I think I'll wait till rock band 2 when they will more than likely have found a way to implement DLC and online play to the wii version.

Some songs are good, some suck. Without Metallica it's seriously lacking IMO.

ok i see the point of dcl on wii but on ps 2 why? untill they stop developing for that console other consoles will be putting up with not as good versions of games as they could of had.

I still need to get Rock Band, but I'll be getting the 360 version.
