Rock Band dev hiring combat designer

Harmonix seeking staffer to build "real-time, single-player combat experiences" for a new IP on next-generation hardware.

by

Rock Band and Dance Central developer Harmonix is branching out for an upcoming project. A job listing at the Cambridge, Massachusetts, developer seeks a combat designer to "create real-time, single-player combat experiences" for a new intellectual property on next-generation hardware. The developer says this project is unlike anything the studio has made before.

Music: when it hits you, you feel no pain…or do you?

In June, Harmonix studio director of communications and brand management John Drake said the company was working on at least two new AAA franchises, one of which may represent a departure from the music-based games the studio is known for.

As for Harmonix's current projects, Rock Band Blitz is due out next week and is the first downloadable entry in the series, while the Kinect-required Dance Central 3 is being readied to ship this fall for the Xbox 360.

Kill bad people... USING YOUR BAND!!Damn, if that's really true, my childhood dreams will be fulfilled. I don't want some Rock of the Dead clone game, just some good-old over-the-top rock performance with tons of special effects and battles will do ;D(and if it isn't this, and instead they'll do just another CoD/BF/Gears of War clone...then I'm sad ;(

It's been obvious for quite a while that the music-game genre is finally dying down(about time), so why are they now going a different route? Better late than never, I guess.

Rhythm based hack'n slash any one?

Harmonix is a great music studio, I"m very curious what this will lead too. I'm guessing a Gitaroo Man/Parappa meets GOW  type of experience.

Think i'll just listen to decent music while playing a real action game  while some pop star sues some random music game.

Some sort of rhythm action game would actually be kind of cool if done right.

I hope this means they're making a fighting game.

Don't hire any of the Brutal Legend guys.  It was OK but it could have been better. Here comes Brutal Legends better looking cousin?

Great news, we all love new projects. Just because they did one genre doesn't mean they can't branch out. Interested to learn more!

Let me guess, you play a soldier in a war (an unlicensed one) standing at the end of 5 trenches, and these soldiers run at you and you have to fire just as they are over a certain point...

@damodar_thade Random music game? You do know that Rock Band is still one of the most popular party games and played at bars. The competition side of it has died down a bit (Though people have pulled off tremendous things, such as Carson getting an FC of Young Man Blues on drums, which was called impossible for 4 years).

@SythisTaru Just because it was made by a legend, doesn't mean it was awesome! It was good for the most part, but overall it was an experience that others could build up on.Off course can't deny it's greatness for being a pioneer. and the music culture references which were fantastic!I'm sure if schaffer would build a sequel, it would be 2 times better.
