Riot Games opens Australian studio

League of Legends developer establishes itself in Sydney; says it wants to grow the game's community in the Oceania region.

by

League of Legends developer Riot Games has opened a studio in Australia.

According to Riot's official site, Riot Games Sydney is now an official studio, with teams in marketing, eSports, and community.

"Sydney Rioters will craft unique experiences on the web and on the ground to support the growing League of Legends community in the Oceania region," Riot said on the site.

No more information about the new studio was revealed, but Riot said it will have more to share soon.

Established in 2006, Riot Games was started by developers from Blizzard Entertainment and the mod community that made DOTA. For more on the studio's flagship effort, check out GameSpot's review of League of Legends.

Hell yeah! Because IT IS a masterpiece in my opinion. It's stunning, visually, and plays like a charm...amazing :)

There's more variety in combat, more enemies, i.a redifined, bigger scenarios, impressive sound and voice acting and face motion capturing. Not to mention also the realism of the grass and the interaction.
It's what Crysis 2 should have been.

Crysis 1 remains the best one, but it was also a more simple game: the story is very stereotypical, expect for the freezing forest which was amazing and a strong identity aspect of the first episode.

Oh my god PLEASE let Riot make an Oceanic server! This would be amazing since i live in Australia! :D

Nice. Hopefully this is the first step in getting Australasian servers up and running. Playing on 220+ ms ping makes some champs very difficult to play - carries especially, with the amount of kiting and last hitting you're doing.

Cant believe idiots will actually bag a game publisher... even if they dont like that genre/make of game specifically... when they open an Australian studio.

How many big game publishers actually have studios in Australia??? Let me answer that for you, not many!

Most publishers manage Australian operations off shore, not supporting the economy at all. You should be thanking riot for supporting the 'game' industry whether you like them or not.

I'm personally on the fence about League, although i think the management of the game is a high standard, throwing 5 mil tournies for the community. Just think twice before you speak.

I think SilenceLasting hates LoL. Might be just a hunch though

@jeremy- Some people are too juvenile to see that a new business opening in Australia means more jobs for Australians.

@lunar1122 Right. Pretty much only kids and Asians play League of Losers. I have a friend who is super high ranked/good and him and his brother play all the time. They hate every minute of it and only play because their wives make them play with them lol.

@kerc_chaos This implies that Australians are in need of jobs. They actually have a pretty sound economy compared to the rest of the world ATM lol, and for @jeremy-  I actually currently work QA for a game company that has multiple people based out of Australia and New Zealand plus I know of at least 5 game publishers that have offices based in Australia..

@SilenceLasting I understand your frustration with kids because of how immature, stubborn, and difficult they can be in games.  But Asians?...  Mmm...  I don't know what to tell you...  looks like you're a bit racist.

@SilenceLasting @lunar1122 So I would assume then that your friend and his brother who are both married are either kids or asians. In keeping with your initial claim. Anyway, I am a white male adult in my mid twenties who teaches high school for a living, and I find the the game quite fun. There goes your theory though...

@SilenceLasting @kerc_chaos I'm living in Australia at the moment. It's alright, could be better, could be worse. Australians generally don't know how much worse it could be though might make them think twice about cussing out everything they do have.

Polarized opinions are all well and good but you need to stay rational or it all goes to hell and people take offence. That's how I see it. I can express my thought and ideas rationally for the most part without trying to offend. I'm not defined by what other people think.

@kerc_chaos @SilenceLasting Oh trust me I know how shitty my government is and personally love Australia and the time I spent there. My main point was that he made it seem that Ausi needed those jobs and that they are better there than other areas (which may be true considering the lack of Oceanic servers for games). Also, games polarize opinions ALL THE TIME. While they are something to be enjoyed they also are ways for people to portray their ideas and ideology as well as to battle hardships and key issues in the world.

@SilenceLasting Your country has a national deficit thanks to the Labour government and all its hand outs, your mining industry has been keeping you a float since the rest of the world fell into recession but for how long? Everyone needs more jobs at the moment, while I realise unemployment in Australia is currently quite low, having a another taxable entity can't be a bad thing?

On a different tangent how does a game polarize opinions? Isn't gaming about what you enjoy?.

@SilenceLasting I'll check those out but again not one for the sandbox type of game. It's why I don't play GTA or FarCry etc. Rather like playing games with clear objectives and goals. Just my sort of thing.

@kerc_chaosGreat game actually, it's really fun and innovative (a TRUE sandbox), I personally have to play it with a good HD texture pack, because you are right the graphics are Fing atrocious lol. You should watch some of Rooster Teeth's Lets Play Minecraft videos, they make and play some awesome fun shit on the Xbox version lol.

@SilenceLasting @kerc_chaos @Stevefin Never played minecraft tbh... not my thing. Have a cousin who can sit on the pc playing it for hours but I can't get why he likes it. I know it is supposed to look that way, but the graphic fidelity doesn't work for me. I grew up looking at games like that and was very happy when graphics got better.

Seems like a hipster sort of thing to go back to the old type of graphics.

@_el_Greco_ @SilenceLasting How is that Racist? LoL I'm pretty sure is the most played game in Korea and in a few other Asian countries. Over half of the tournament teams in LoL are from Asian countries...Stating facts does not make me racist. And the only thing I said about Asians was that they play LoL and that my friend and his brother are Chinese...Which by having friends who are Chinese I am pretty sure shows that I am not Racist against Asians. You on the other hand feel the need to call people Racist from almost no evidence...RACIST!

SilenceLasting

@PoodgerYeah, they are Chinese actually. Also, I said "Pretty much only" not "Only".

@kerc_chaos @SilenceLasting Yeah lol.  I love when people get pissed and are like "F&%& YOU FOR CORRECTING ME!!1!" because they are helping you correct an error, so you should thank them lol.
