Riot bans professional League of Legends player Christian 'IWillDominate' Rivera

Professional League of Legends player Christian "IWillDominate" Rivera permanently banned for "toxic behaviour"; suspended from playing in the Championship Series for a year.

Professional League of Legends player Christian "IWillDominate" Rivera has been suspended for a year from playing in the League of Legends Championship Series, developer Riot has announced. Vice president of eSports Dustin "RedBeard" Beck revealed the news in a post on the League of Legends forum.

The announcement was made following news that Christian "IWillDominate" Rivera had already been permanently banned from the game for "toxic behaviour."

The post states that he had been brought before the Tribunal "eight or nine times" and holds "a persistent record of in-game harassment, verbal abuse, offensive language and negative attitude."

In addition to the one-year suspension from playing in the Championship Series, he has had other existing known accounts permanently banned.

"We take sportsmanship and player behaviour very seriously, and we fundamentally believe that pro players should not be exempt from scrutiny over their behaviour" the announcement read.

Christian recently represented international eSports team Team Dignitas at the Season 2 North American Regional Finals, placing second with his teammates. Team Dignitas' owner, Michael O'Dell, has confirmed that he will be replaced.

This makes me so happy. People in these MOBA games are way too bitter and just downright disturbing. I cannot stand this it rages me that people rage at people over a video game. Hope this guys career is trashed.

HIS behaviour represents so many ANTISOCIAL people on the Internet. I am glad that they have taken that stand. Its bad enough coming across the likes of him on the forums, games and internet social hubs. GET OUT !!

a champion in a game genre of what... 4 titles? (dota 1-2, LoL, HoN)

all of them known to be filled with nerds that rage hard at the slightest sign of someone who's not "pro"... if he managed to rise up to become competitive AND be part of a legit "pro" team... of course he's going to symbolise everything that goes on in this corner of the gaming community.

Tower Defence communities are 80% trolls (or am I being too lenient with that percentage?).  Now let's see him survive in the real world without living at home with his parents, the luxury to spend his time after flipping burgers playing endless hours of LoL... that I'd like to keep tabs on.

(if you disagree about the burger flipping, seriously... tell me what you think he looks like he's qualified to do as a day job?  Something along the lines of burger flipping is all I can see him doing)

A Professional League of Legends player, is it not another politically correct way to say to someone that he is gonna die a virgin?

IWillDominate = I dominate and if i dont it is your fault noobs. I would say about 10% of LOL players are like this. It seems more as they are very vocal and in almsot every game but there are 10 players you know...Sucks for the other 90%

Oh, how I wish this kid could get the **** kicked out of him... Children like this really need to get a grip on reality via a fist in the face. Then let's see how much trash he can talk. I love the pic, i.e., the epitome of a skinny little **** talker being Johnny dangerous over the mic...

Something I found very confusing about this article is that if Rivera has been permanently banned for leagues of legends then wouldn't it stand to reason that he also permanently banned from competing in the championships as well? because how can he be in the championships for a game he is banned from playing?

@Stormbringer91 It's easy to rage. If you make a wrong play or are having a bad game, people jump on you and you get ticked off and retaliate. It's not like you can avoid reading the chat because you need it for strategy communication. I try to keep my cool as much as possible but sometimes, someone gets under your skin.

@eriktkire With that response you deserve to be burger flipping right next to him. You don't know the guy, but are quite ready to comment on how he looks and what you think he does irl. Get some reins on that prejudice.

@Vince286 This isn't 1985.  Why are you bashing your fellow nerds?  You know you'd be making money playing video games too if you could.  It's not like all these guys don't also have "real" jobs.

 @Act_Chill

Actually, that's pretty good point.  Even if you were to presume that in every game there would be someone on your team like this it only bumps up the percentage to 20%, and I've played lots of games (losing ones even) where no one is like this.  I've also played many games where multiple people are jerks, so it's hard to get a clear percentage, but I'd certainly like to think that the majority of MOBA players are just decent people who enjoy the genre.

@RoadStar1602  @Stormbringer91 No no no. You're never supposed to tell some fuck wad they're stupid and caused you/the team to get ganked. You're always supposed to be as polite as possible! Fuck that. If some idiot doesn't know what the fuck he's doing, he needs to stay the fuck out of Ranked games.

eriktkire

@TechSin you forget the type of behaviour the community in these tower defence games are well known to foster.

It's not a prejudice, it's an evaluation of ALL the proposed facts... including the look of that promo photo.

He did afterall choose that expression/pose/etc as a representation of his personality.  It's not like he's a catalog model being told to "look like this" while wearing the latest season's fashion range - on sale now!

Stormbringer91
Stormbringer91

@Fungum  @RoadStar1602 Also, if you're going to be one of the top players for a video game, or any franchise or esport/sport if you don't have a cool head and keep it on the low down the owners of the franchise/sport/esport DO take action. Look at any NBA/NFL/ANY SPORT ever. Someone who has unreasonable like conduct will be punished for it, and if its a repeated offense stuff like this happens. Also, players who are insulted perform WORSE than they ever would have before. It's about positive reinforcement, people never perform better under stress. You sound like some raged out moba gamer.

@eriktkire Are you incapable of using Google? Oh, you are one of those people that has to have their information spoon-fed to them! Very well, just for you, you poor search-deprived thing:

Tower defense games are a type of game that features continually spawning (and usually increasing in strength or numbers) waves of enemies that you attempt to channel through overlapping fields of fire, usually by building towers and walls that force them to follow a path that exposes them to the maximum amount of damage during transit. The enemies are attempting to reach your base alive. Some tower defense games have you lose points simply by having an enemy survive to your base, others the enemies have to carry something out and back off the map. In all cases, you lose if your [hp/energy/score/whatever] gets to a predetermined point (sometimes 0, sometimes a positive number).

It took me way longer to type that out than a Google search for "tower defense" that returns hundreds of results, none of which are MOBA games. But since you are apparently either incapable of or too lazy to perform even the most basic search on the internet, I explained the concept for you. Which brings me to the rest of your question that could have been answered with 30 seconds on Google: They are called MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, since you have demonstrated you are too lazy too look up anything - no matter how simple) games. You even used the word yourself! So either you were being deliberately obtuse, or paying zero attention and just spouting your drivel without even knowing what the words you use mean.

Don't call me "son". I'm not your son, I'm most likely at least a decade older than you (since most people of MY generation are able to spare 30 seconds to find information on a subject we are unfamiliar with), and it makes you sound like even more of a moron than you already do.

One last thing before I go. I could do this to your entire post, but I'll limit myself to the last paragraph: It should be "Break out your dictionary, son;" and "some lessonS about sentence structure". May I suggest that you don't fuck up the sentences where you criticize others' writing? I'll leave you with a learning exercise: Find the other 7 writing mistakes you made in that last post, not including the last paragraph.

@eriktkire  @TechSin If you are gonna comment at least try to sound you you have the least clue what you are talking about. Tower defense is a completely different type of game. League and the other MOBA-style games are not tower defense.
