Rez creator to teach at Japanese university

Tetsuya Mizuguchi joins Keio University Graduate School of Media Design as project professor.

Students at one Japanese university could have Rez creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi as a teacher. The designer behind Lumines, Child of Eden, and Sega Rally Championship has been appointed as project professor at Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (KMD) in Tokyo, Japan.

Mizuguchi is taking his talents to school.

According to an announcement from the school, Mizuguchi will continue to produce games while at KMD, and "further expand his expertise in the field of media design and innovative content production."

Last month, Q Entertainment studio director Nobuhiko Shimizu confirmed that Mizuguchi was no longer making games at the company, instead acting as a studio spokesperson. Shimizu explained that Mizuguchi at the time was involving himself with academic work.

Excellent teach the next generation of Videogame creators. This can greatly improve the upcoming people, by passing on your knowledge. This is why Japan rules when it comes to creating games.

Profs with hands-on experience are priceless.

Mizuguchi could be raising a whole new generation of devs to provide the world with tons of potentially great games/programs/innovations. All the best to him in this endeavour.

Nothing to do with RE 5 or 6, REZ was great, Lumines was unique, Sega Rally Championship was a lot of fun and I just got Child of Eden(I don't know about it yet. If it's a successor to REZ, I can't wait. As with a lot of Sega games, the masses just do not understand, or "get" them.

Is Mizuguchi one of the main guys that made the old Resident Evil games or the newer 'Resident Evil' games like the abomination 5 and 6? if the former, he's blinkin amazing, if the latter... you know what you can do =P

If he made the earlier games it's very nice he's sharing his work and knowledge etc, might lead other new Japanese developers into getting the rights for Resident Evil from crapcom and making a decent Resident Evil game for once.

Lumines and Rez are 2 great games and I still have both (though I like lumines more), and even though they are fun and are good games I don't think this guy has much fantasy. I don't know what he would be teaching since his only concern in a game seems to be "if stuff happens make a sound".

Nice.  One of my former teachers was a programmer for the Puzzle Quest games, and another was a 3D modeller for one of EA's studios.

I wondered what Tetsuya Mizuguchi was going to do after the last headline article.
