Rewind: Week in Review

Without a doubt GameSpot News was taken over by Square this week. Here's a wrap-up.

Comments

Square always manages to capture the media spotlight when it releases new titles, and sure enough Legend of Mana and its four demos captured gamers' interests this week. Being in Japan on the day of the game's release, I was able to see first hand the excitement over this new title. Some stores we visited featured literally hundreds of copies of the title with posters and flyers encompassing entire walls. On Monday of this week I spoke about the hype the game carried in Japan.

Then came our impressions. Our duo of Square-loving editors James Mielke and Andrew Vestal immediately wrote about their thoughts on Legend of Mana and its demos.

The best news for our readers had to have been that many of these games we were reporting on were being planned for the US already. Vagrant Story, Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross, and Dew Prism are all on the list for the states.

GameSpot News also featured a story on a very interesting announcement from Square this week as well. The company is excited by Nintendo's Dolphin. Whether or not this means that Square will lend its talents to the new system is unknown, but it's very interesting that the company would go on record to announce its interest in the new machine.

We also uncovered that Square is working on a music title similar to the Konami Bemani series for a release next year.

With all the Square news this week one would have to assume that the new game information and impressions will be all exhausted. Not true - next week we'll have plenty more Square news for you.
