Rewind: The Week's Top Stories

We recap the big happenings this week, including new Dreamcast announcements and new Capcom titles.

Sega finally went made an announcement this week regarding its summer rental promotion with nationwide video-rental chain Hollywood Video. In a teleconference held on Tuesday, Sega president and chief operating officer Bernie Stolar and Hollywood Entertainment president Jeffrey Yap discussed the companies' plans for renting out Sega's new system in 600 Hollywood Video stores around the nation. The program will let gamers test the system and titles like Sonic Adventure and Power Stone before their official release on September 9.

Today, GameSpot News spoke with Sega reps and presented a new question: What happens after September 9? More specifically, what happens with Sega of America's relationship with Hollywood Video? Will the rental chain feature Dreamcast games before their release in the future (similar to how Nintendo 64 games are often rented exclusively at Blockbuster Video stores weeks before their official release)? Sega could only comment that it has made no announcements beyond the Dreamcast launch, but that "the Hollywood Video rental relationship is integral to the Dreamcast plan." So while no official comments have been made, it does seem likely that the relationship will continue after the Dreamcast launch - expect the rental-store giant to feature some Dreamcast exclusives in the future.

We also had new details on two new Dreamcast sequels from Japan - Death Crimson 2 and Gunbird 2. Death Crimson was painfully poor on the Saturn, but, surprisingly, the sequel is looking quite good. Our article featured some new screens that show off the game's House of the Dead-esque look. Gunbird 2 will be a great addition to the Dreamcast library, which at present features no 2D vertical shooters.

Capcom was also in the news this week. We featured reports on two new titles from the developer and an upcoming concert. This week, Capcom released the highly anticipated Dino Crisis for the PlayStation, the latest in the company's line of survival-horror titles, and we featured several pictures and impressions on the awesome game. We also ran a hands-on story for Capcom's recently released Rival Schools Fighting Diary 2 for the PlayStation. And one last Capcom article we ran held details on a Biohazard (Resident Evil) concert that Capcom will be hosting in Japan. The New Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra will play musical arrangements from the Resident Evil series at the concert, as Capcom shows off new footage of Resident Evil 3 for the first time.
