Respawn seeking Titan trademark

Title of first game from independent studio founded by Call of Duty veterans potentially revealed.

The name of Respawn Entertainment's first game may have been revealed. The southern California developer recently filed a trademark application with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) for "Titan" (via All Games Beta).

The mark--filed April 11--covers "video and computer game programs; video game discs; video game software." A representative from Respawn Entertainment was not immediately available to comment.

Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward founders Jason West and Vince Zampella created Respawn Entertainment in 2010 after Activision fired them, claiming insubordination. The studio's first game will be published by Activision rival Electronic Arts.

West has since left the company to take care of "family issues."

Gamers may not have long to wait to learn of Respawn's first game. Zampella said last month that the studio will attend the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, adding "I have no intention of showing up empty-handed!"

Respawn's first game is reportedly a first-person science-fiction shooter that may support 3D.

Honestly the time for Respawn have come and gone, Respawn is a failure in my books until further notice, It sould be up there enjoying the same love and respect as Bungie and Destiny

it's been a long time. I'm really curious with their new IP. Hope the wait is worth it. I'm fully support you, Respawn.

I'm sorry, but I will have no part in the continued bullshit drama of Zampella/West vs Activision. EA just wants another piece of the FPS pie and Zampella/West just wanna get back at their publishing equivalent of a mean step-father. I will not be purchasing "Titan" or what have you, that's for damn sure.

To be fair, it could also be a game engine they're trying to develop for the new game.

I find it very disturbing that people can trademark single words that are not specific to a product.

i'm betting that this is going to be like CoD + Half-Life + Halo + Mass Effect + Gears of War + Battlefield  + Borderlands + Fallout + Destiny and yet be completely original and new

Titan? sounds like a PC title you would hear back in the 90s

this "let's tease our game with a blurry picture" trend needs to die.

I hope this is something near to the depth of Mass Effect. Never played Gears of War or Halo but i heard the two wasn't as deep. Tough I have faith in these guys. I'm almost sure they won't let us down.

1. Respawn are independent and have full ownership of their IP. EA is publishing the game through the EA Partners program but that's all. By contrast, Infinity Ward was owned by Activision which gave Activision as much meddling power as they wanted.

2. It's been confirmed to be a new IP, so it's not going to be C&C or tiberium related. Besides, they wouldn't have the rights to existing franchises so that would go against their whole 'retaining control of IP' condition in their EA Partners contract.

3. Dismissing something you've seen absolutely nothing of based on ... well, almost no information at all ... is incredibly stupid.

4. They've kept an extremely tight lid on information so far with only two blurry images having been released years ago. But they've said that they're going to be showing something at E3 this year.

E3 is only a few months away - if you want to condemn the game based on what you see there then I still think it's premature but at least you'll have a bit more information to go on. But condemning it now, before you've seen or know ANYTHING, shows only how closed minded and stupid you are while offering no legitimate commentary on this game whatsoever.

So, from Activision to Electronic Arts ... what does that change?

Little.

From the people who originated Medal of Honor... and the people who made CoD before it was ruined... comes the next big thing? Wonder how many versions they make before the publishers drives it into the ground. At the very least we should get a few good games out of it.

I still think that it's somehow related to Tiberium, but we'll see what happens at E3.

@Prequell All different kind of games. I think it's unlikely that the guys who gave us modern warfare will produce a game with dialogue trees.

@blackothh

It's through EA partners program.  EA has no control over their creative freedom and development.

Hence why they said INDEPENDENT developer and studio.

Please learn the facts first before you say something without backing.

@mr_azim Idiot. This is an image Respawn released two years ago. It's the first image of their game and is INTENTIONALLY blury.

@PSYCHOV3N0M @blackothh I would like to see an example of something ea has NOT fucked up in the last 5 years.  Anyone who decides to associate themselves with ea is just looking for trouble.

@VGamesrule 3D is just a word a normal person would understand, but in reality it's only stereo image (even in with Nvidiainspector I checked out the setting and it showed Stereo instead of 3D), two image sources besides each other like we ourselves look at life, it's for better depth perception. Real 3D I've seen is, when the image comes out of the screen at you, and you can move your head around it and look at it different angles, and that was already possible in 1995 (when I saw a exhibit of some cool stuff 2 among them were a power glove thing for a game and a 3D glasses for viewing a animal skull, possibly for medical usage).
