Insomniac wants to
Insomniac wants to "evolve the definition" of a Facebook game.

The developer described the sci-fi-themed Outernauts as an adventure role-playing game that sees players exploring the galaxy, accumulating loot, capturing and training creatures, and fighting space pirates.

"We see a huge opportunity to reach an entirely different audience of gamers through Facebook," Insomniac founder Ted Price said in a statement. "As we have demonstrated for nearly 20 years in the console games space, we're confident we can help evolve the definition of a game experience on Facebook."

While Insomniac established a Facebook and social game division called Insomniac Click last year, Outernauts won't sport that name. As a representative from the studio explained on Twitter, "A lot has changed in the industry since last year, as well as in our studio. After some discussion, we concluded that every game we make regardless of the platform and audience it's intended for should be under the Insomniac Games umbrella."

Outernauts is currently in closed beta testing, with a public beta coming soon.
