SAN DIEGO--Gamers who picked up April's well-received SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs were promised early access to the multiplayer beta for Insomniac Games' Resistance 3 at a to-be-determined date in the future. Now, the developer has dated the beta, saying it will begin during the first week of August.

The news stems from Insomniac's official Twitter feed, where the developer wrote that those with SOCOM 4 codes in North America can get in alongside European PlayStation Plus subscribers. The developer did not say when, or if, the beta will open to the public.

As for the full game, Resistance 3 is due out on September 6. It will be the first game to use Sony's new online pass program, whereby new copies of the game will be provided a code to unlock the game's online features. Additionally, Resistance 3 will be available in a $150 Sharpshooter iteration and a $500 3D TV bundle.
