Filming on The Final Chapter is underway in South Africa, Sony Pictures has announced. Alongside the expected cast members, Iain Glen will appear in the movie. You may remember him as Dr. Isaacs from the second and third Resident Evil movies (Apocalypse and Extinction, respectively). He's been absent from the last two after getting sliced into little pieces in Extinction, not that death means much in these movies. Since then, Glen has become well-known for his role as Jorah Mormont on Game of Thrones.

Also appearing in The Final Chapter will be Shawn Roberts (pictured above), who has played Albert Wesker in the most recent films. (Jason O'Mara portrayed him in Extinction.) Wesker has become of the of main characters of the film series after being left out of the first two.

The same can be said for Claire Redfield, who will again be played by Ali Larter. And, as we've always known--filming was delayed for her--Milla Jovovich is back as Alice. Jovovich's stunt double was recently badly injured.

New additions to the cast include Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) as Abigail, Eoin Macken (The Night Shift) as Doc, William Levy as Christian, Fraser James (Law & Order: UK) as Michael, and Rola (a Japanese model) as Cobalt.

As for the plot, things pick up in the immediate wake of the last movie, Retribution. Here's Sony's official synopsis: "[H]umanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity's final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began--Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

"In a race against time, Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action-packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella's impending attack, this will be Alice's most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion."

The Final Chapter--which series director and Paul W.S. Anderson says is indeed the final movie--is slated for release on January 27, 2017. As for games, a new competitive shooter is in the works, as are remastered versions of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 2.
