Resident Evil: Raccoon City dev reveals next project

Following poorly received Resident Evil game, company building its first original IP, the mysterious 2013-dated Strata Scavenger.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City shipped yesterday and was panned by critics across the board. Today, its developer, Slant Six Games, has announced the studio's next project, Strata Scavenger.

Whatever Strata Scavenger is, it comes to life next year.

Revealed via a sparse product page on the studio's website, Slant Six said it expects to ship Strata Scavenger in 2013. Details are thin concerning the project, but a poster for the game (at right) depicts a space ship hovering above thick smoke and bright lightning. Platforms were not announced.

Strata Scavenger will be Slant Six's first original intellectual property. Prior to developing Resident Evil: Raccoon City, the developer built the SOCOM games SOCOM: Tactical Strike (2007 PSP), SOCOM: Confrontation (2008 PS3), and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 (2010 PSP).

For more on Slant Six's most recent effort, check out GameSpot's review of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.

its funny so many games have ridiculous amount of glitches (skyrim anyone??) yet they get decent scores despite them. as long as your playing with real people, the game's a blast! i haven't run into any glitches that have halted my progress in the game or really removed me from the experience. I tried playing campaign with AI once, and it was pretty retarded but once I started playing with people, I found where the strength of this game lies. too dark? TURN UP THE BRIGHTNESS ON UR TV/GAME...too easy? turn up the difficulty to veteran or pro!! i didn't even try normal i started veteran and it was a challenging and tense experience, after i beat it i started all over on pro difficulty since i was having so much fun. the one thing i learned from this game is to not always trust gamespot with their reviews cuz in the end it's just one guys opinion that has been deciding what games i buy and don't buy. if you were excited for this game before it came out, you won't be dissappointed! i bought the game before the review came out, and once i saw the GS score my heart dropped, but i was very surprised after playing it myself! GS is great, but they were a bit harsh on this game, perhaps because they've been giving mediocore games decent scores they felt they had to be harsher with this one?

@lMeRCiLeSSl Yea imagine a RE co-op video game with true survival horror gameplay built with modern technology? WOULD BE AWESOME! I know RE Outbreak 1 and 2 were great co op RE games, so why can't they make another one or at least have made REORC still be slower paced, more dangerous, more trial and error, and more survival? The variety to a true co-op survival horror experience would be great. I don't mind if you can move and shoot or not, I just hate it when people act like it's a big deal when you can't move ESPECIALLY when the RE games that started the series had stop and shoot gameplay.

lMeRCiLeSSl
lMeRCiLeSSl

@SgtStrungOut I don't know why everyone (like you) are so disappointed in the game, EVERYONE should know it's barely an RE game since WAY before it launched, the game isn't as bad as everyone makes it seem. Sure it doesn't have even a hint of scary moments (amongst other epic fails in the game) like most RE games, but, it is a 'squad based shooter' not strictly a survival horror. Most of this game is a needed upgrade to the franchise IMO, what cop, mercinary, etc. do you know can't think quickly and has to stand in place to shoot a gun? The game SHOULD be more slow paced. Lickers, Hunters, and other creatures SHOULDN'T take so many shots to the face and not die. The game SHOULD have more 'Oh ****, where'd that come from' moments. Melee SHOULDN'T be so overpowered. The game SHOULD be much longer. The list goes on about the bad, that being said I don't believe they killed the series, it had and still has potential. Considering most of the flaws can be fixed in a patch. It is a solid game, it is pretty fun, for the most part. As for the 'New Project' I agree with @bballabarry they need to focus on fixing the flaws in RE:ORC

where is the old RE? where all the horror and survival experience was left...

Its official, Im done with this game. It too friggen dark and it takes WAY too many bullets to kill anything (including normal people!). It makes Halo look like CoD on Hardcore mode....Maybe i can trade this in or Ebay it for the max amount before too many ppl realize it sucks.Major letdown...

SgtStrungOut
SgtStrungOut

@chadbtownvt So you are preferring ORC (a bad poor excuse of a RE game) over RE5 (another bad poor excuse of a RE game) over the fact that you can "run while moving"? Wow, the human race is seriously dumbed down. Did you not know that the RE series started with the stand and shoot mechanic? Oh but you wouldn't know that since you are new to the series. You probably started on RE4 and if you played the older ones, you no doubt sucked at them. You would not have lasted in the PS1 RE days. Scrub.

SgtStrungOut
SgtStrungOut

Oh wow, for reals? They are already announcing a new game for 2013? Damnit, why don't devs just stop hyping up crap? Getting annoying.

Capcom needs to bring back Resident Evil Outbreak. i would prefer that online play over this garbage. Or atleast bring it to the Vita.

they just need to Fix the AI, and a couple glitch's then were good

lusafis518

i just think if you plan on playing by your self this is a crap game (like L4D is crap playing by your self) but if your playing Online with a full group then this game is really cool (your team AI is really dumb but the bad guy's AI is pretty good)

famekiller

i have this sneaky suspicion that most people biitchin about how crap this game is haven't even played it. Losers. The game is really cool. As long as you dig multiplayer. The single player is about 6/10

chadbtownvt
chadbtownvt

Alright so i will hush the critcs poor reviews by saying that they are full of crap and have no real knowledge how to rate a game. for instance a few review websites such as IGN, Gamespot, Xbox, they are saying 4 or 4.5/10. if they go by there own rating system they would see how dumb they appear to people that actually are playing Resident Evil:Operation Racoon City. so 4/10, basically the game is broken, unplayable, glitching constantly, no fun to be seen or heard of, graphics are horrible, the guns are horrible. its a joke, obviously slant six didnt kiss ass so there getting poor reviews, i believe RE:operation racoon city is better then RE5, you can actually run and shoot people in this game, you can have fun. people dont understand that games are being made but are not gonna follow suite with the games name. i feel like yes they should have left resident evil out of the name to shut people up, they play and there like oh this isnt like RE:5 this sucks. take the name away and you have a good ,fun 3rd person zombie shooter. dont believe any review that rates this game below a 7/10, i give it atleast a 7.5/10

Is anyone up for Aliens Colonial Marines when that comes out in the Fall.....maybe. I hear of another delay for that game I am going to die of fright.

vengefulwilberg

The only thing that really makes the game fun is playing it with friends. The game isn't bad; but it is no where near as great as it could have been. Slant Six and Socom sucks. RE ORC probably would have been way better if some other group did it. Either way...as long as Capcom themselves is doing RE 6; then I am not worried. Sometimes letting other groups work on a game they really don't have much knowledge about is not a good idea.

gameguy182

Do not care! I knew their RE game was going to suck. It looked so awful!

This game is still fun despite all these problems reviewers run into that I don't run into. Sure the game has it's mechanic flaws, as a player you learn the game so you can avoid things like that. Not finding ammo? Resident Evil? Those always go together what are you whining about? What about ME2 AI? They were stupid too. Also can't revive your friend? The game made it so you need to LOOK at the OBJECT you want to interact with so you would get the prompt accordingly. Gamers now aday's need to stop playing on casual. There is plenty of tension in the game with Hunters, Lickers, and Crimson Heads running after you not to mention the Spec-ops. The cover system is just a plus on top of that, this game isn't a Cover Based Shooter. Who takes cover to shoot zombies running at you anyway, you are most likely leaving yourself open to get grappled. Also if you actually take the time to play the game and LEARN IT you won't have that many problems with the melee system its not that hard to master. I'm not saying that the game is perfect by any means, but it still deserves to be played even if you rent it. Sides Capcom's community for the game is a lot more level headed than most other people and actually gave it a chance and had fun with it. 4/10 or whatever the case may be but many of us are having 8/10 fun. Stop comparing the game to what it isn't and complaining about what the game is.

I don't know if you all follow me but... don't you ever get tired year after year of seeing a lot of average to bad games coming, and millions of GS teen users drooling over them, posting things like "I want it", "I'll try it" like they have nothing better to do than this..?

Slant Six couldn't do justice to the SOCOM franchise, what makes Capcom think they'd be the best choice for a Resident Evil shooter, a much more prestigious franchise? Some of these glitches are just stupid. It's clear they never balanced the gameplay properly.

@Joedgabe : Actually, it does hurt. It shows game developers that they can put out a half a**ed product and get away with it. I think developers should focus on less games, but QUALITY games in what they do put out instead of wasting time on alot of the garbage that comes out. For example, movie based games. 90% of them are utter and complete crap, a waste of time, money, and resources. I fail to see the point in developing ANYTHING that isn't sure to get a 9 rating minimum. Ever. Consumers need to demand quality. I do.

Marky360
Marky360

I love Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City I thinks it's badass and is nowhere near as bad as all the review sites claim. I'm not the only who feels this way all my friends who purchased the game pretty much agree it's awesome as for this new game I'm not so sure I'm not to keen on Slant Six as a developer since Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City is the only game of there's I've played So I'll just have to wait and see what this will look like before I can make a decision.

moviequest14
moviequest14

@Joedgabe : Secondly a good 80% of the things aren't 'Potayto-pototo' differences that are just opinion...things like imprecise damage taken, scarce ammo, glitchy ai,glitchy covering, etc. are all actual fact problems with the game,I could agree with you if the problems were more of those type of intricate details only critics care about like '5% less pacing than needed' or exact color shades...but those are major problems for a game that is mainly focused on team and cover shooting it is disappointing for all 3 genre aspects to be flawed. As I said,if this were a new game it would be more easily forgivable, but it does ''hurt to have those games around'' very much when you've been waiting for a game that covers that to come out for a long time and bi disappointed by it.They should've given the project to a more capable studio if they couldn't handle it themselves.

moviequest14
moviequest14

@Joedgabe : Well I'm sure that EVERY SINGLE GAME EVER MADE is enjoyed by at least one person...that doesn't mean M&M's racing or Spy Games : Elevator Mission should still be selling though. It would be one thing if this were a cult/niche title that was specifically designed for a certain audience...or a game that isn't technically perfect but makes up for it in personality and enjoyment (ie. thrillville, etc.) .... but this isn't either of those...the offence would be more easily forgiven if this were an independent/new game...but the reason so many people hate it so much is that Slant Six decided to take on an excellent and fairly critically steady franchise and kamakaze it.Literally,Raccoon City has 'earned' some of the lowest scores for almost any Resident Evil title ever made, and especially for a fairly main-line installment (while it isn't a direct sequel it covers one of the main and most important events of RE and is mentioned throughout the entire series. It is fine if they want to screw up a new ip,but it is highly offensive to RE fans to butcher what should be one of the best installments in the series.

Joedgabe
Joedgabe

@DarthLod well it doesn't hurt to have those games around... they might pull it off one time.

Dareitus
Dareitus

Maybe this is what Slant Six needs. Instead of butchering someone else's IP maybe they can just come up with some interesting ideas of their own,

DarthLod

@Joedgabe : Truth isn't always kind. "trying" is not good enough.

Joedgabe
Joedgabe

@DarthLod wow ... that's so rude. Let them keep trying some people do enjoy their games.. it might not be me or you but there out there if not they would have been fired some time ago.

DarthLod

Slant Six should just close shop, seriously. If you cant make quality, then DONT even bother with quantity. None of their games have scored, or done well. You'd think they would get the point by now. For example: Had Epic Games made RE:ORC we'd be seeing alot of 9's and high sales because they always make quality games. Quality!!!!

Slant Six Games Spokesperson : ''After spending our time and effort to completely rape the Resident Evil franchise and make this installment of a very critical event of Resident Evil one of the lowest rated Resident Evil games in the entire series,it is time for us to make another game.''

The last few RE's (Revelations and Resident Evil 5) were both fantastic despite not being like the originals. Sadly this is a lackluster piece of garbage with bullet sponge enemies, terribly linear and designed levels with too-dark of an atmosphere, and clunky AI.

i wish gamespot lets us view whoever click on any of the comments and score it negative..i swear, most of the negative points in this comment section are from little kids that love the game so much even when it's a broken product..i agree with magakick..a change of atmosphere and a dumb story would not make me stay away from a certain game..but when a game is so broken and it's not even fun to play due to the technical issues, it becomes annoying..im pretty sure the people that score other ppl's comments negatively because they are mad at themselves for being stupid and spending 60 bucks..here is a tip for all you early adopters, get GAMEFLY..i've been a member for years..and even tho this is a bad game..i will still buy it when its 8.99 in less than a year on gamefly...to all gamefly members..you know it's the best place to buy games cheap..and they even give you the online code too!!

Seriously I have played through quite a bit of the campaign and online portions of ORC. Very few problems aside from right in the beginning where one of my teammates walked into a wall mine laser. It didn't kill him and I kept on playing. I don't see where the reviewers are coming from at all. Granted its not a true Resident Evil experience, but nor is it designed to be as one. I thought the reviewers knew that long before this ever came out. Of all the issues that have been stated I have seen one instance. As far as I'm concerned it's another case of the media sensationalizing a topic, nothing more.
