Resident Evil Archives reanimates this June

Wii remake of Capcom's seminal survival horror game dated in North America, Europe.

by

Like the zombies it features, Capcom's original survival horror game Resident Evil keeps coming back. Since its 1996 debut, the original PlayStation hit has seen rereleases and adaptations for the PC, Saturn, GameCube, and Nintendo DS. There was even a "Director's Cut" of the game created for the PlayStation.

Well he looks trustworthy.

Capcom has now confirmed a window for the influential game's next exhumation, as Resident Evil Archives is set for a June launch on the Wii in North America and Europe. An adaptation of the GameCube rerelease, Archives introduces new controls designed to take advantage of the Wii's motion-sensing controller. The new version also retains the GameCube's numerous enhancements to the original title, including a significant graphics overhaul, and new areas, items, defensive weapons, and creatures.

The game was originally confirmed for international release earlier this year, when Capcom announced a brand-new installment of the franchise for Nintendo's console, Darkside Chronicles. The publisher also confirmed another Wii remake, this time for the 2002 GameCube prequel Resident Evil Zero. That game is expected to ship later this year. The publisher also has already said that the Wii rereleases will retail for $29.99 each.

i just wish it could come to pc, im a big fan of RE series, spent a lifetime playing them over and over, while there where a 1000 games around...i hate it when they make a exclusive title, limiting it to a single platform, its not just fair...

I dont understand this. I can understand RE4 Wii b/c at least in that game you control the aiming, but REmake was the original RE style where you cant really see what you're aiming at, it's auto aim. So tell me, please Nintendo, how is the Wiimote going change gameplay here? I remember when they were going to call the Wii the "Revolution". I guess they realized remaking remakes wouldn't really seem revolutionary....and it's not.

I'm ready to play it again but I kinda wanna see RE5 Wii. I just beat it at a friend's finally and I don't see why they couldn't put it on Wii.

another original RE remake huh? not bad, but what about RE2 or RE? that'd be cool...

I seriously don't think these remakes are worth it and give the Wii a bad reputation. The GCN version of the game was fine and I strongly don't think new controls are going to alter that experience and make it that much better. Lame.

why dont they just let the old res-evil games age with dignaity and make some new res-evil games.

They keep milking the cow. At least most of us want more milk. The Resident Evil series should have games in between 5 and 6; like Code: Veronica that came between 3 and 4. Or a better example, like all those Grand Theft Auto games that came between III and IV, including San Andreas. That way they make more money, and keep the milk drinkers happy.

It'll be interesting to see how the game plays without the traditional 'tank' controls. It'll certainly be a lot easier, so Capcom will have to counter.

It's too bad Gamecube games weren't this popular the first time around. I already own most of the Wii's line up for this year.

This "archive" should have included both titles on a compilation disc. Haven't they heard there's a recession?

They want to sell a more expensive Wii version identical to the already out, cheaper Gamecube version?

creativeminded

this is beyooond sad, really. The gamecube version was fantastic with drastically improved visuals and lots of new game play elements but this Wii version will be exactly the same as the former and people remember the old RE type games don't benefit from Wii controls so who are they playing at?

More like Wiimake -_- All they do is add new Wiimote controls...

Im a huge Resident Evil fan & im not interested in playing this game with new controls. I have Resident Evil on the PSX, Sega Saturn & GameCube so there is no reason 4 me 2 buy this game again. I'll rent it 1st just 2 c if its worth buying. Capcom needs 2 stop F'in around & give the ppl a proper Resident Evil 2 remake!

angel , it will not be any worst then the gc version ,, ps1 was as worst as it can get , and i doubt it will be that ,, graphics this gen mean nothing , any one play dead rising ,, , , test drive unlimited on ps2 , , many more i can go on , , dead rising ctyd was actually better on wii , dispite what many may think, dead rising wasnt about graphics any way , those saying it was are in denial the only difference is more zombes on screen that i could care less about , dead rising on the 360 looks like it was rushed compared to halo 3 and so on , and red steel was an awsome game , dispite reviews, wiis current get over it, lets face it , , ps1 never had the stunning n64 like visuals, and we all accepted that, by the way the difference is 2x noticeavle =64 bit vs 32bit , but this gen ,, i dont see much difference because its still 3d rendered , , zelda tp proved wii can handle nice graphics, galaxy proved it can handle nicer ones , you all fail to realise even though the xbox was not and is not current , play burnout revenge and timesplitters future perfect, you will still see that the game looked almost as good as many xbox360 shooters/racers , why bvecause xbox didnt even reach its potential , since re 4 was the greatest looking game but yet xbox was more powerful , and wii is a little above xbox 1 standards, and re wasnt made for xbox360 ps3 now was it , there for you again proved me right, because you dont have a 360 version to compare the wii one to . . re5 doesnt count because its a whole new game ,which by comparision there is only a minor difference from re4 to re5 so lol , ,

This sounds awesome that we can see the remake-version of RE series on Wii. I played with most of Resident Evil main stream series, and I'm so happy to have them again. It seems there are some new features in the games. I'm looking forward to them. I'm just hoping that they can remake Resident Evil 2, 3, and Veronica in a better way. Particularly, RE2 was so fantastic. I loved it! ...To release the same games again, and again is quite boring for the previous generation of game players, but I think this process is very good, and important for the new generation of game players. Because, the company has to tell what's happened in the past that they released such mega-hit games which are very good quality, and fantastic stories. That's why I'm so glad Capcom is telling us the story of RE series from generation to generation. Every time Capcom does a perfect job!

angelGP32
angelGP32

the wii isn't capable of this generation in terms of graphics and capability, just get over it, you will get ports. The sad thing is, it will probably be worse than the gamecube version, that game was simply amazing.

Good work Capcom. When will you remake RE2, RE3, RE:CV and the other RE games (for the PS3, Wii and XBOX 360)? Only time will tell.

anyone know of any video of this game (well, it would be the japanese version) in motion? im curious how they would implement the controls. would it just be buttons or more like re4 on wii? if so, it would have to be over the shoulder. im really curious and i cant find any video

mattg90520
mattg90520

hmm, im just glad since i never got to play any on the gc except for the last, re4. this will be good for me. however, i do hope they release them all and not just half ass these two. the whole res. evil archives thing is a bit annoying - pointing out that the game has been rerereleased so many times. oh well. im just glad to finally play them

It sounds to me that this isn't going to be a half-assed remake. At least 3/4 ass. lol

i agree with most that the wii graphics are the same as GC. i have a wii and a xbox360, even though i wish they would revamp the graphics for older RE games for the 360, it would probably take forever and capcom has really been putting a ton of games out this year so i guess i dont really blame them. and also if they did remake RE for the 360, dont expect it to be 29.99 try 59.99 thats how xbox rolls :/

This is bad. What about the fans on other systems who would love to find decently priced versions of these games on the systems they support? RE 5 is cool and all, but there comes a time when maybe Capcom should dis-mount their a$$es from their collective heads and let everybody play on the jungle gym.

thetravman
thetravman

Yeah sure, just another port and there's been quite a few of them, but don't complain about it people. No one is forcing you to buy it if you've played it once before. Besides that, there is a fair share of great original games for the Wii and more coming. Don't judge the Wii by the number of ports and shovelware it has.

I say stick to the Gamecube versions, not these attempts to make more money off the Wii.

I would be happy with all of the RE games being remade. Especially with the tank controls removed.

This is just fancy talk for Resident Evil being ported to the Wii. Sounds like the only thing they are adding is Wii controls. I like how they say "the new version also retains the GameCube's numerous enhancements to the original title" LOL. In other words, it's no different than the Gamecube version. I would love to see the Resident Evil gaves given respectable remakes on current gen systems (Xbox 360/PS3).
