Capcom's horror game Resident Evil 7 has now shipped 3 million copies worldwide, the publisher announced today. In all, the series has now passed 76 million units shipped worldwide since it debuted in 1996.

Resident Evil 7 launched on January 24. It shipped 2.5 million copies in its launch week. This number is down considerably compared to the previous games in the series. Resident Evil 5 shipped 4 million copies in its first week, with Resident Evil 6 shipping 4.5 million during its first week. Capcom's shares fell after Resident Evil 7 came out, presumably in response to the poor comparison.
