Resident Evil 6 splits preorder DLC maps between retailers

Mercenaries mode returning with GameStop, Amazon, and Best Buy each getting an exclusive map for their customers; PC version launch date not finalized.

The Resident Evil 6 online community will be splintered from day one. Capcom today announced that the survival-themed Mercenaries mode will return in Resident Evil 6, but three bonus maps will be available only by preorder and will be split between a trio of retailers.

Gamers can battle it out in the Catacombs, but only if they preorder at GameStop.

Those who preorder Resident Evil 6 at GameStop will receive the Catacombs map, Amazon users will score the High Seas Fortress environment, and Best Buy purchasers will get the Rail Yard space.

Capcom did not say if it will make the Mercenaries mode maps available for separate purchase at a later date, or how many Mercenaries maps will be available for all players. As of press time, the publisher had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

Resident Evil 6 is due out on October 2 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The PC version's launch date has not yet been confirmed, but Capcom says it will announce an exact date "soon." For more on the title, check out GameSpot's latest preview.

To be safe, I am thankful to be able to pre-order the whole lot on the PS Store. I'm even worried I won't get any of these maps if I plan on waiting HOPEFULLY for those DLC maps to be available ever on the PS Store. Seriously this story was like risk your top 3 crushes for 1 choice. Capcom...do what you would be most comfortable with as for yourselves and if this is the way for the future..its not

I want to know this; if I pre-order from GameStop and get the Catacombs map, will I be able to play with anyone who has the High Seas map or will the Mercenaries be divided into three groups based on who we pre-order from?
