Report: Watch Dogs targeting 1080p on PS4, but what about Xbox One?

Ubisoft reveals resolution for PlayStation 4 version and says, "We are utilizing Xbox One to it its full capabilities…"

In a new video interview, Ubisoft cinematics animation lead Lars Bonde told PC Games that the PlayStation 4 version of Watch Dogs is targeting 1080p, but stopped short of confirming resolution details for the Xbox One iteration.

In the YouTube video--which has since been set to private but was seen by CVG--Bonde says even though there may be visual performance differences between the different versions of the game, the core gameplay will be the same regardless of what console you play on.

"The first thing I want to make clear is that, at its core, it's the same experience on current-gen and next-gen consoles. You get the same gameplay out of it," he said.

"Of course there are nuances to it," he added. "We are utilizing Xbox One to its full capabilities and the same with PS4, of course, so I know that, as far as to my knowledge, on PS4 it will run in full HD."

This tallies with unconfirmed reports from earlier this year, which claimed that Watch Dogs on PS4 would run in 1080p while the Xbox One version would output in something less. Notably, the video in question here is the same video that Watch Dogs creative director Jonathan Morin retweeted a link to yesterday.

Watch Dogs launches May 27 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PS4, and PC. The Wii U version is coming sometime later. Earlier this week, GameStop revealed that Watch Dogs will have a $20 DLC pass that, among other things, will include a new playable character.

They're targeting 1080p? The game is out in 20 days. They're a little late with this "targeting a resolution of 1080p" aren't they.

1080p is not everything the xbone have 900p but with better textures and physics the ps4 version will come with 1080p but will less texture improvement and lame illumination system just like batlefield 4

I'm so happy I have a lot of PS3 games still unplayed. And I mean a lot.

I'll leave next gen for next year :D

@raziel2kain  That is just flat out not true. The x1 has had a 1080p retail game since launch.

Another day like any other in Gamespot... The review of some games... an article about some big fish saying somethings... another trailer... Eddie writes and article to let go his obsession with resolutions...

Yup; definitely a day like any other...

No excuse for poor programmers, lets face it devs just don't know how to programme properly for the latest hardware. Massive increase in hardware power yet games only look slightly better.

Meh. Devs need to attend the "programming for current gen consoles" course....

XNEXUS666X

1080p but 30fps on PS4 I bet, X1 slightly worse... It would be a crime to play this game on anything but PC.

Warlord_Irochi
Warlord_Irochi

@XNEXUS666X If you can afford the 800€ Graphic card you need to run it full detail 1440p 120FPS. if not it will in fact require to commit a crime (provably bank robbery) to play it.

@Warlord_Irochi You do realize that you can play the game at high settings on a i5, 8gb ram and a 200-300 gfx card without problems right? Yeah I thought not.

There are PC gamers out there that don't game 1440p you know..

I feel sorry for lems,

because ubi themselves said they are using the xbone to its full potential.

and if it ends up looking like garbage,

its going to be jedi level deflections going on here,

and as if those Olympic level mental gymnastics weren't enough,

these deflections will move mountains,

their mental backflips with flip the hemispheres,

and only then will we live in the backwards world they do

@killatwill15 I'd go that far to say thay Ubisoft is using XBO to Ubisoft's current understanding of XBO's full potential. If Forza 5 can run at 1080p and 60fps, this game should be able to run at least at 1080p and 30fps... if Ubisoft knows how to optimize it to the max.

I'm PC and PS4 gamer and will get this game on one of those platforms, but I am not that impressed with visuals. That being said, I'm enjoying GTA5 on PS3, so I'm not worried if WD visuals don't take my breath away... but I think that The Division - for example - looks better than WD. And it is also from Ubisof (albeit from different design team).

In my experience, Ubisoft has very... flexible standards when it comes to games' optimization. Regardless of fact that I didn't enjoy FC3 much as it was hyped, it looked good and actually run better on my ageing 6870 than, say, Future Soldier, also developed by Ubisoft, much more (graphical) power demanding, yet much more average looking game.

@killatwill15 The Xbox One came out less than six months ago. Nobody is using it to it's fullest potential yet.

@nikon133 @killatwill15 If you think current gen consoles are already maxing out the hardware then you know nothing about programming. Devs just don't know how to efficiently develop games to run on latest hardware set ups period. It's a learning curve out there & the more professional devs stand out against the minor ones in what their bringing to market.

nikon133
nikon133

@Messenger360p @nikon133@killatwill15 That is exactly what I said, mate. At best, Ubisoft is maxing out THEIR CURENT CAPABILITY to code for XBO, not actual console's potential. This is basically what they can do right now, not what console can do. What is unclear here?

Warlord_Irochi
Warlord_Irochi

@nikon133"Ubisoft is maxing out THEIR CURENT CAPABILITY to code for XBO"
Yup, this. Not to menction "we are using 100% of the consoles power" is something you hear like 30 times in each console generation.

I thought that the XBone version was going to be 960p. Microsoft probably had Ubisot sign an NDA, preventing them to discuss the XBone version since it will be inferior to the PS4 version. Bad press about an important title such as Watch Dogs could affect XBone sales. Microsoft did it for Ttanfall 360 and now they are doing it for Watch Dogs.

Freaking Microsoft. Screwing customers once again.

Your playing a dangerous game Ubisoft. I demand Next Gen quality for my Xbox One and you damn well better give me it or I'm cancelling my pre order. Its like devs forgot about the 32 MB of ESRAM that was added to give the One a power boost. If that's not enough of an incentive just wait for Direct X 12 to come out and then release a post game patch to improve graphic and resolution quality. Seriously its as if these devs didn't learn a god damn thing in college. Why the hell do we let these people make our games?

@Biotasticmeat  Keep in mind X1 released a good 9-12 months ahead of its intended schedule and the SDKs and drivers and everything is FINALLY getting to the point it was meant to be at for a launch.

Martyr77

@Biotasticmeat It honestly isn't their fault. There is only so much they can do with the Xbox One. It is a weaker console and that is a fact.

spilly42

Actually its a big secret.. It actually runs at 1440p on Xbox One and at 1079p on PS4.

@domisbatman Yeah... and that's actually pretty odd.  They have to send this game to the manufacturers to start cranking out boxes in a few weeks and they are still just "targeting" 1080p on PS4??

We damn well know what the X1 version will be....792p-900p, 30 FPS.

@XxXDarkness0XxX @BamaGoatt

"why do people care so much on how things look?"

Because people are different from you.  If you do not care how thinks look - you know you can save yourself some money and buy a used first generation Xbox console.  Most of us know what we expect in a next generation console; things like looks, resolution, graphics, performance, disk storage, games, and price are all important.
