Report: Soon There Will Be a "Gamer" LEGO Minifigure

The character wears glasses and a t-shirt with the phrase "Player 1."

That's him on the top left.

An upcoming line of physical LEGO minifigure toys will include a "gamer" character who wears glasses and headphones, as well as a t-shirt that has the phrase "Player 1" on it. That's according to LEGO enthusiast website The Brothers Brick (via CNET), which this weekend posted a first look at the upcoming Series 12 lineup of LEGO minifigures.

The "gamer" LEGO minifig, which may not be the official name, also has brown hair and is shown wielding a classic-style game controller. We should be getting more information about the "gamer" minifig, and other new toys in the line, as Series 12's arrival this October gets closer.

Other geek-oriented minifigs include a staff-wielding wizard and some sort of futuristic-looking character who wears a space suit and holds some kind of orange drill. Oh, there is also a pizza delivery guy and someone dressed in a pig suit with an apple. Each figure will reportedly cost $4.

The LEGO video game franchise is one of the biggest in the history of video games. In passing 100 million units sold to date recently, the LEGO series joins other big-name franchises to reach that mark like Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, and Mario. The next entry in the series is this year's Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, which is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC, PlayStation Vita, 3DS, and Wii U.

I'm not sure why they couldn't just have the controller and headset so you can put them on any of the other characters.  There isn't just ONE type of gamer, and the type presented here is eye-rollingly stereotypical.

That character looks like a real d***, which is how I picture a lot of the gamer jerks to look like.

Man, this... ARGH!  At least it isn't fat with a neck beard.

When on earth are we going to get past this stereotype?

In before the feminists come out to whine about it being a male model.

@RobDev No but it will come with a feature that pastes the word "entitled" as a response to every post on the internet.

@john_matrix_007 Maybe not a basement, nut a gameroom 'play set' would be cool, I know your trying to be insulting, but a gameroom setting was the first thing i thought of when I heard about this article, and there being a gamer minifig, that's kinda cool...

@Tiwill44 I know! This supposed 'gamer' figure is such a stereotype, urgh!  I'm not some nerdy-looking glasses-wearing dude!

...I'm a nerdy-looking glasses-wearing girl. ; )

@Tiwill44 This is getting silly.  Folks like you complain that GS is nothing but articles about g ays and women, but then you come to every article that ISN'T (which is most of them) and spew this crap.  It's getting old. We understand your position.

If you must spew this crap, do so on articles that are at least about that issue.  This article is about LEGOs.  You're the one with these issues on the brain.  Not GS.  To quote Adam Orth, Get over it.

@Tiwill44 Just pop the head off and replace it with a girl face. Then draw 2x U with some white-out.

@hystavito @olddadgamer Except.... they're not really.  Often, hateful people say hateful things in just such a way that they can say "Hey, only joking" when people call them on it.  They can go off and hide behind that claim.

It's cowardly, really.  Someone who is for equality, you know where they stand.  Say "You're for X rights," they'll look you in the eye and say "Yup."  Someone full of hate?  They won't even stand by it, most of the time.  Call them on it, and they say "joking" or they hide behind the internet.

@hystavito @olddadgamer Internet is super cereal place, there can be absolutely no joking, we have to attack everyone who tries to have fun!
