"Maximum payneful" may have been the common consensus among critics, but the Mark Wahlberg-led action flick inspired by Remedy's disillusioned cop drama still managed respectable bank. After opening to $18 million in October, the 20th Century Fox production has gone on to gross nearly $40 million as of November, according to IMDB.

Those yields will soon be growing, though, as High-Def Digest reports this week that an unrated edition of Max Payne has been slotted in for a January 20 release on Blu-ray Disc. The home box office release will reportedly include a number of extras, including audio commentary, a documentary, and deleted scenes. The Blu-ray release will also include a picture-in-picture track, as well as BD-Live support.

Remedy's gaming franchise has been dormant since 2003's Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. However, the publisher has repeatedly hinted, most recently this March, that a follow-up is in the works.

It could be worse stakex. Uwe Bowell could have directed it, just think of the nightmares you would have had then. I agree the movie was not that good, but Mark Wahlberg was working the best he could with the resources he had. Other than that, I think the problem with movie adaptation of famous video games (at the least the first time attempts, because the sequel films seem to do good) is that the director and producer have never laid a single hand on the game. They look up the summary probably on wikipedia, decide that is not good enough to fill an hour and a half or 2 hour time slot, and attempt to fill in the rest with either action or an improvised plotline.

you do know that you can walk out and get either your money back or a voucher for a different movie right?

Im with CreepingShadow... If it was not for the cost of the movie ticket, and the fact I was with other people, I would have walked out of this movie half way through. Im sorry, but you have absolutly no brain if you found this movie to be at all good. The story behind the movie wasn't bad, but the director clearly had no desier to actually use the story the whole second part of the movie, leaveing several loose ends, and not takeing advantage of the plot points set up in the beggining of the film. Then the acting was... well it was down right terrible. I really like Mark Wallberg as an actor, but he played probly the worst role of his career with this movie... and thats pretty hard when his role was to play a dry, depressed cop. Then there is the end of the film... which was about as bad as it could have possibly been. Several plot issues were never resolved, then main "bad guy" that was being built up the whole movie died without any sort of climaxtic fight, and the last ten minuts of the movie had a terrible lack of action. If a movie wants to be a brainless bullet fest... then fine, but this movie even failed to do that, which is pretty damn hard to do to be perfectly honest.I don't mean to rag on anyone who actually enjoyed the film... and I myself like many films most people don't, but I just can't grasp how someone could honestly say they enjoyed this film. I really can't.

lazy reporting, going for the cheap easy story instead of finding something worth writing about

Well the movie wasn't that good as they twisted a lot of the story's elements around but the visuals were nice. I am looking forward to this so called "Follow-up" of the 1st 2 games that is coming, i'm guessing it's part 3 that will be the final to wrap up the epic story of the detective on a hunt for retribution and i am excited as i really want to see how things conclude and what other sick twist will be made 2 the story!!

Movie maker should stop making movie that has a title of video game, if the plot isn't related to the game will be failure, don't they learn that from Final Fantasy?

Why not use a big budget to make Max Payne 3? Oh wait! Someone could make much more money getting filmgoers that don't read or watch reviews to see it. Reminds me of (most of) the Wii third party support...sad.

Max Payne was one of those games you don't really have to change everything about in order to make a quality film. Too bad they did it anyway.

The Max Payne movie flopping was my biggest disappointment of the year. how could they **** up a concept as deep and mezmerising as the Max Payne games?!

Blue-Sky

I didn't mind the over acting in the movie, but the fact that they were light on action and slapped a PG-13 rating kind of blew it for me. I definitely don't want to see the movie again.

Max Payne 2 on the PC was quite possibly the best game I've ever been blessed to play in my entire life. What an incredible experience that game was, god I can't believe they haven't made a new game yet! Such a fantastic franchise, I love it.

I haven't seen this movie, but if you want to talk about bad movies based on games, check out Super Mario Bros. It was so out there and so many liberties were taken with this film that I am surprised Mario and Luigi were still plumbers. Just a terrible movie. I would take the second Mortal Kombat over that piece any day. I will have to Netflix when it comes out.

I cant wait. I saw the movie and gave it 10/10. This is just my opinion so please respect it as I respect yours. This movie was fabulous and great. Brought back memories of the games and goes to show that not all movies based off of games does not suck every time lol. I am going to buy this on blu ray day one. Even My wife loved this movie. I did not let me kids go see it cause I felt as if though it may be to much violence. Good thing I saw it first. I was right. Talk about a great violent and emotional story line. Just amazing.

How is this news? Honestly stop making movies off of video games, 4 out of 5 times they end up like crap, off the top of my head: street fighter, mortal combat anihilation, dead or alive, hitman, doom, the only mediocre ones are the resident evil series. Mark my words whenever the Halo movie comes out, it will make a lot of money, but it will suck.

efoxneo
efoxneo

There are about a thousand movies I would rather get on Blu ray before this one. I had to appologize to everyone I pulled to go see that movie. The action was horrible, and the casting was a sad reflection of what Hollywood does best - ruin video game franchises with poor movie representations. I cannot think of a single video game movie I like a lot. Its not like they have to re-write anything, the story in most of the movies they have made so far are good enough to be movies (except stupid ones like Street Fighter, or Dead or Alive for example).

I honestly liked the film. Sure, it was a little slow, but all together I found it to be good. Could have been alot better, but keep in mind that it's a movie based on a game! Compared to the other game-based movies, it's an f-ing masterpiece! But then again, I'm a huge fan of Max Payne. I've beaten the first game 4 times and the second game 11 times :P
