Remedy bringing Death Rally to iPhones, iPads

Alan Wake developer adapting 1996 original car-combat racer for release on Apple's iOS platforms this March.

by

It took Remedy Games five years to bring its cerebral action adventure game Alan Wake to market, having announced the project in May 2005 and delivered it to critical approbation in May 2010. The turnaround time on Remedy's next effort will be quite a bit shorter.

This week, the Finnish game studio announced it is adapting its first game, Death Rally, for the iPhone and iPad. A specific release date for the top-down car-combat racer has yet to be established, but Remedy did indicate in the game's official trailer (below) that Death Rally will be available through Apple's app store in March. Pricing information was not disclosed.

Death Rally returns in March.

The original Death Rally received a strong critical response upon its release for the PC in 1996. In it, players navigated through winding obstacle courses, blasting one another with heavy ordnance in an effort to be the first to cross the finish line. Winning races yielded dollars that gamers could use to upgrade their vehicles.

Beyond Death Rally, Remedy is also at work on a new, top-tier Xbox 360-exclusive title, but details on that project remain slim.

PC gamers looking for an idea of what to expect from the iOS can download a Windows version of the 1996 title for free through Remedy's website.

Why they won't release it for PC? I love this game and I don't know how many times I beat the game to the end.

_el_Greco_ Yeah, that's quite some time ago. I remember it playing with a friend, one would drive, the other would shoot. XD Not too many 2-player games on the PC, still today actually. :P And I too want to see this on PC again. I like the way they just revamped it, even though I would love to see something like 'Interstate '76' or something. But the way the game is now, would make a nice download through Steam or something. They could also add achievements and stuff.

How about stop worrying about the consoles and cell phones and get back to making PC games?

Never heard of this game, but looking at Gamespot's review score, it's worth trying.

Oh man... Death Rally... I remember playing this one when I was young. Truly one of the best games ever made. The re-make looks pretty cool. I hope it will retain the same soundtrack although it's doubtful. The original soundtrack was awesome. It had that old-school feel to it... that 90s vibe ; )
