Electronic Arts has opened up registration for its "Best of the Battlefield" contest, a 256-clan battle royale from which one team will emerge triumphant (and $250,000 richer). Registration details are available at the game's official Web site.

Space is limited to 128 clans (with 10 players per clan) for the Xbox version of the game, and another 128 clans for the PlayStation 2 edition. Once the tournament kicks off November 21, those clans will duke it out until each system produces its own champion. Whichever of those teams scores highest in the final round wins home-platform advantage for the ultimate championship match. The winning clan walks away with a quarter million dollars for its efforts as well as a claim to being "Best of the Battlefield."

Complete tournament rules and eligibility requirements are available on the Web site. Battlefield 2: Modern Combat is rated T for Teen and retails for $49.99.
