Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad delayed to September 13

Tripwire Interactive's PC first-person shooter pushed back two weeks to give developer time to add "extra polish."

The lines of battle constantly shift, and Tripwire Interactive's wargame Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad maintains that trend. The publisher today announced the game will miss its August 30 release date and instead arrive on September 13 exclusively on the PC.

The heroes of Stalingrad aren't quite ready to pull the trigger.

In a statement, the publisher said the additional two weeks of development time will allow the studio to "get it right and add the extra polish the game (and the players) deserve."

As its name implies, Heroes of Stalingrad takes place in Stalingrad, the site of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II. The game's single-player campaign has gamers completing alternating missions as Russians and Germans. The title also sports a multiplayer component, where players can duke it out in three distinct game modes: Territories, Firefight, and Countdown.

Personaly they can delay until October for all I care. I didn't pre-order with the expectation of playing the closed beta before a certain date, because they never listed a date. And everyone should know that the final stage of closed beta is finding small stuff like that little spot in the map that NOONE ever goes to, that somehow leads you into some underground abyss after you lay down and press a button combo. Those glitches get found in the late stage, and after release. And they rarely effect gameplay. Quit watching alpha video sof AI and crapping your pants. Theres thousands of peopleplaying the game as we speak, and hundreds of Russians punching in code. Hell modding teams are already in Alpha stages of their mods....

@emperiox What are you twelve? You canceled your pre-order because a company is taking its time fixing a game. Alot of games have been delayed in gaming history, including games that have gotten 9/10+ on this site. Its the developers choice not to reveal when the closed beta starts inside the digital deluxe package, because then they would be jerking your chain after they decided to ask for more time from their publisher. Game design doesn't happen like you think. Half the time the dev's can't even postpone without publisher permission. And glitches and bugs don't always get ironned out. Look at CoD. They did NO public beta testing, had massive air drop glitches in multyplayer, and peoiple still suck their nuts. Yet you complain about a company that started from a source mod. Get over yourself and quit whining that you didnt get invited to closed beta yet.

@alienmonkeycult Yes but Battlefield came before Call of Duty.

@mrgoldfish1 You do realize that the battlefield series started out as a world war 2 game just like call of duty right? How is it people can be so uninformed about games on a game information website?

@peanut-butter It has almost nothing to do with the delay. It has to do with the fact that Tripwire has been jerking everyone's chain. First they release a preorder with a promise of a beta, then they don't say when the beta is, when customers who bought it ask they are basically rude about it by basically saying "quit bugging us about it", then they delay a game due to it being riddled with bugs and technical difficulties after THOUSANDS of people have preordered it within the first couple of days. No, this is just the final straw. I don't like companies screwing with me by misleading me and using shady business tactics. THAT's why I'm cancelling my preorder. I know that games have bugs, but there's no excuse for screwing with your fanbase the way that Tripwire Interactive has been... With it being this close to the release, the bugs should have been worked out by now. There's absolutely no excuse for this garbage and the way that they've treated their customers. NONE.

@peanut-butter Since when is it having anything to do with me being impatient? I don't like companies jerking my chain. First they release a pre-order, promise a beta, don't give us a date for the beta, when asked for a date they basically tell everyone "Quit bugging us", they release a preorder which they basically said "Ya we're delaying it even though we got your preorder because of the fact that it's a broken piece of crap filled with technical bugs and issues". To come out a couple of days after a preorder has been started and then delay a game that many people were looking forward to seems like a shady business tactic. To say that I'm cancelling my preorder because of the delay is about 90% wrong. I'm cancelling my preorder because of Tripwires antics. I don't like companies f'ing with me.

I wish I had a PC that could run the game, it actually sounds kinda good for a WWII game, I mean how often do you get to play as the Russians or the Germans?

@MrGoldfish1 Why are people judging games by it's graphics now? Everyone kept saying that gameplay is wut matters, but now everyone is hating sumthing like cod just cuz they use an old engine? The graphics still looks pretty good if u ask me. Plus this game is nutting like cod, it's not scripted, and is an open battlefield. Have u even played the first game? It was pretty epic, and I'm looking forward for this one. Go and post sh!t about cod elsewhere.

@EzechielPregzt Doom wasn't a World War 2 shooter. Call of Duty started out as a World War 2 shooter. The graphics look a lot like Call of Duty's graphics. Have fun playing the Call of Duty clone, while I go play Battlefield 3. From M-S-M-S's post it seems like there will be tank battles on some maps just like World at War. This game will definitely be a Call of Duty clone.

@cp198108a I think that what made the first game amazing was that it gave you a feeling of realism. I hope that this game will support tank battles as the first one. I loved those maps...

I played Red Orchestra a long time ago on the PC, back then it has started as a mod just like Counterstrike and Day Of Defeat, sinds then alot has changed a few years ago Steam started and had all these games under their wing so on-line play and connection would be better. All i can say is that Red Orchestra def isn,t a COD or MW clone its been there longer then these games. The maps in Red Orchestra where big and great and suited every class well. In the original you had maps of different periods of the war, there was a Stalingrad map, a battle of kursk map ect, the nice thing ppl might not know some of these maps had tanks and halftrucks you could use, so its def not COD or MW more like an early BF thing realy. But its nice to see Tripwire bringing a new Red Orchestra now :)

@MrGoldfish1 To bad CoD sorta sucks, it's been the same game OVER and OVER every year. Call of Duty isn't even a special game anymore. You mind as well say "Look's like a Doom clone", because Doom is one of the granddaddies of the FPS genre.

@emperiox There is no logic in that. Are you really that impatient? "Aw man two more weeks of waiting? Well hell, I guess I just won't get the game then. I'll totally be happier in the end that way." It's crazy because you're probably not the only person who is this impatient.

Don't know about this one but I loved COD1 and COD2 sniping on the PC. Judging by the trailer it's looks some what the same. So I'll give this one a shot.

I'm going to give this a shot. Didn't play the first one, but I've heard nothing but positive regard for this, and I've yet to play a bad Tripwire game.

The closed beta is awesome. This is truely a game made for the PC gamer crowd. Mod kits will be available on day 1 so there wont be any need to spend money on 15 dollar map packs. If anyone played the first game they know this one will have a great community.

If it were almost any other developer (besides Valve), I'd be upset, but Tripwire knows what they're doing and they are fixing up the game for us so I'll happily wait a little longer :)
ALYKZANDYR Posted Aug 8, 2011 7:10 pm PT Beta access probably pushed back too?
Beta access isn't pushed back. However they said on the forums that beta starts when they push out the bugs from this build, and it can change.

Disappointed in hearing that...damn September is looking crowded...Dead Island, Space Marines, Red Orchestra 2, Driver San Francisco...COJ:Cartel ( A bit skeptic 'bout this one). That being said, Red Orchestra 2 is one of a kind beast...brace yourself.

I am a bit pissed that they pushed it back, but polishing a game like this is critical so I understand. Love this game series so much.

@CincoToes Yes, strictly speaking, my accusations were jumpy yet, anyone who would so easily describe these tough.. games as generic would make any experienced gamers think that he's not really acquainted with hardcore FPSs. It's not stipulated anywhere but if you've slight exp. you might just know it.

lsw3638
lsw3638

More realistic, harsher challenges yet provides fun for casual gamers unlike ARMA series. Taht's about it.

CincoToes
CincoToes

@lsw3638 Just because dude said it sounds generic doesn't mean he hasn't played graw2. He also didn't say anything about harsh challenges. Making illegitimate arguments is not hardcore and trying to pass yourself off as hardcore based on your videogame preferences is decidedly softcore.

Brendissimo35
Brendissimo35

@pcty Clearly you haven't done your homework. Red Orchestra is anything but generic. In fact it turns many people off precisely because it is so different from mainstream shooters.

lsw3638
lsw3638

@pcty by that comment, you admit that you didn't played RO1, GRAW2 hardcore fps and you're softcore FPSer and your comment is based on your guessing alone not on your actual game experience. If you don't want harsher challenge you might as well stay with easy ones.

lsw3638

For veteran gamers and FPSers who want challenges Not maniac like ARMA and still carries fun of 64 players PVP mayhem of instant death.
