Red Faction: Guerrilla green-lit for June 9
THQ confirms that third installment in its Mars-set, destructible-environment-filled PC, 360, and PS3 shooter will arrive the week after E3.
Six years and four months after Red Faction II shipped for the PC, GameCube, PlayStation 2, and the original Xbox, its sequel will finally arrive. This morning, THQ confirmed to GameSpot that Red Faction: Guerrilla will launch on June 9, the week after E3. Rated M for Mature, the game will be available for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
Developed by recently downsized Saints Row maker Volition Inc., Red Faction: Guerrilla is set on a terraformed and colonized Mars that saw a Total Recall-like uprising of miners in the first two games. The forthcoming entry will depict the struggle between descendants of a Martian mining colony and the totalitarian Earth Defense Force looming over them.
As the game's title implies, players will be part of the resistance, waging hit-and-run attacks in an effort to disrupt the EDF's control of the planet. Various Guerrilla missions will be available in a variety of locations in the open-world game, which will also update the series' signature "geo-modding" destructible environments for the current generation of consoles.
