Red Dead Revolver Likely Coming as a PS2-on-PS4 Game Soon

Probably not the RDR you were hoping for.

While everyone continues to anxiously await news that Red Dead Redemption is getting a sequel or a remake or just anything, its predecessor looks to be coming to PS4.

Earlier today, a listing for Red Dead Revolver went live on Australia's PlayStation Store (via Wario64). It listed a release date of September 13 and a price of 22.95 AUD (about $17), indicating its release could be imminent elsewhere in the world, too. However, that listing has since been removed, and there's not yet any official word about its launch.

Presumably this listing went live sooner than intended and a launch is indeed coming soon. Before getting too excited, keep in mind this appears to be a PS2-on-PS4 version, meaning this isn't some kind of extensive remaster or otherwise improved edition of the game.

Red Dead Revolver, released in 2004, is the oft-forgotten start of Rockstar's Red Dead series, which garnered far more attention with the release of 2010's Red Dead Redemption. That game was recently added to the Xbox One's backward compatibility program.

Parent company Take-Two indicated in May that Rockstar will announce new games "soon," though none of these will be out until April 2017 at the very earliest. None of those projects may be a new Red Dead, but a map from a possible Red Dead Redemption 2 leaked earlier this year, and we do know the franchise is considered a "permanent" one by Take-Two.
