Red Dead Redemption lassoing the Far East - Report

Rockstar Games' open-world action game debuting in Japan October 7.

Rockstar Games' open-world Western Red Dead Redemption is heading East. According to Andriasang, the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu reveals that Rockstar's latest is due October 7 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Japan.

John Marston's going to need a lot of track to get to Japan.

Red Dead Redemption exploded onto shelves in North America and Europe in May. Since then, the open-world action game has won rapt reviews across the board, sold more than 5 million units, and has four distinct downloadable content packs planned for it in the coming months.

In other John Marston-related news, Rockstar is planning to actively hunt down and eradicate cheaters from the world of Red Dead Redemption beginning in August with the game's upcoming title update.

Earlier this month, Rockstar confirmed to GameSpot that it had enacted a round of layoffs at its San Diego studio following the launch of Red Dead Redemption. According to the Take-Two subsidiary, the layoffs were a result of the studio's wrapping development on its latest blockbuster game.

I'm hoping for some sort of dlc where they age jack marston to the point where he's grungy/experienced and not so annoying.

@BionicBrando The Good The Bad & The Wierd has Korean Cowboys, obviously not Japanese but still pretty rare.

I thought this was revealing some DLC where Marsden goes to Japan. Anyone seen Shanghai Noon? This would be the reverse of that. Genius!!!

I'd pay to hear John Marston speak japanese XD

Hopefully Rockstar can teach the Japanese something about open world games. Especially after that linear mess FFXIII.

Whenever I picture non-Americans watching/playing Westerns, all I can think about is that line from Die Hard... "This time John Wayne does not walk off into the sunset with Grace Kelly." "That was Gary Cooper, a**hole." XD

@Jshaw71 ... wow... seriously? come on! ... really? ok... >_> About the article... cool! Everyone in the world deserves to play this game, its awesome!

@ Jshaw71 Yeah, considering Japan is a skinny vertical sliver on the map, there wouldn't be too much differentiation of Japanese East and West. Not to mention, as swamptick already said, that's not even what they're doing.

I don`t mean to be a jerk but I`m glad we have at least one great game that comes in English first (obviously since this is Rockstar!) because many great games are from the japanese companies so this time It`s our win! Yeahhhh! Take that you smart little... !!Oh never mind.

@ Jshaw71 Did you even read the article? They are not making it in the Jp west. They are releasing THIS game in the far east. Reading comprehension is awesome.

I would like to see a PC version of this game, but good for Japan

I doubt this will sell well there. Why would the Japanese care about the wild, dirty old west?? And did they even take the time to translate the voices, and lip-sync, or is it just straight subtitles??

Rockstar... guys... seriously.. I need a patch or something. Please fix my horse in online mode. He keeps acting like a JERK. Call him, he runs over, go to mount him, he runs away. Repeat! ... I can almost hear him laughing at me. Smart-*ss!

I'm living in Japan right now and it is already sold here in English. however, the online is horrible for me, because ti always match me with overseas. which leads to low ping which leads to getting killed easily.

lol... When I first read the title and the first paragraph, I thought there was going to be a huge DLC that would add more single-player that would be in east-USA, but then I read its for Japan... Who really gives a shet XD

@bulletsword well in that sense im more disappointed about RDR then happy. It was WAY too much a texture replacement of the GTA series down the to gameplay itself. Red Dead Revolver, ESPECIALLY the multiplayer was fantastic and unique, unique being the key word. I would have liked to see a similar game along those lines released this generation than a skinpack of GTAIV. Don't get me wrong the game was a blast and i thoroughly enjoyed it but after spending time in Liberty City, RDR felt almost too familiar for my tastes. I miss the crazier Red Dead Revolver.

@KamuiFei agreed. The Japanese do have an interest in certain western time periods.

You're welcome Japan, you're welcome. I swear to god tho, if you get an in-game samurai sword, I will buy sushi just to spit in it.

I think Japan will love this game. I mean when you think about it, I think Japan has a secret love for "the western" theme. Just look at the animes; COWBOY Bebop, OUTLAW Star, "GUNSLINGER" Girl...erm well, either way, they're gonna get a cool game over there.

Hmm... I never knew that Westerns were popular in Japan. It will be interesting to see how it sells- I'll definitely keep an eye on the vg chartz. I wonder- is it fully translated, dubbed over, or just accompanied by subtitles? Would have taken a good while to re-record all that dialogue- hopefully it will translate better into Japanese than RE games translate into english.

To all those begging for RDR on PC: Is that what you really want? Do you guys not remember GTA4 on PC? Have you already forgotten what a mess that was? RDR is already glitchy on consoles; given Rockstar's track record, I'm not sure why you'd expect the PC version to be any better.

Japan loves American culture and Americans love that Japan loves American culture.

@Dill-Man Dude, you just typed out my dream game. Especially after just watching Samurai Champloo.

Icehearted

Yeah, I get the feeling that if they advertise this right, Japan's gonna love this game a whole lot. They probably see just as few old western themed games as we do, and this one's about as good as it gets. Also, big sales (already done in America!) means we're more likely to see another... which I can hardly wait for! :D

Beastcake

This is gonna explode over there as well; they dig this stuff. The game is amazing though. I'm glad more people are going to experience it for themselves.
