Rebellion buys Strangelite

Strangelite Studios is no longer swears its fealty to Empire Interactive. The company has updated its Web site with the news that it is now part of UK publisher Rebellion's stable of studios.

The post also confirmed that Strangelite has two first-person shooters in development for PC and console platforms. No other details were given, but at least one of them will be an original intellectual property. A job posting on the developer's site seeks a producer to work on "a new and exciting IP in the FPS genre." Strangelite has previous experience in the genre, having developed last year's Starship Troopers PC game for Empire Interactive.

Rebellion has been developing games on a number of platforms for 15 years, from Alien vs. Predator on the Atari Jaguar to more recent fare like the multiplatform Sniper Elite and the upcoming PlayStation Portable release Miami Vice. The company also owns the 2000 AD comics line and its stable of properties, most notably the character Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper. A game based on the latter was just released last month.
