Ratchet & Clank dev asks for support after former intern loses leg in car accident

Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games is pointing fans to a support page after 20-year-old summer intern Ana Kessel was badly injured in a car accident on Monday and needed to have her leg amputated.

"Our [North Carolina] intern this summer on R&C: Into the Nexus, Ana Kessel, was injured badly in a car accident," Insomniac Games wrote on Twitter yesterday.

The developer directed followers to a GoFundMe page where funds are being sought to help Kessel with hospital fees. The funding goal was tripled yesterday from $50,000 to $150,000 in hopes of being able to get Kessel the best possible prosthetic leg.

At press time, funding stands at $23,535.

Kessel is no longer employed at Insomniac as an intern, so she is not eligible for medical assistance from the developer.

"She was our intern only over the summer. So she's on her own right now, hence the help we're trying to rally," Insomniac said.

Kessel recently graduated from Full Sail University and worked at Insomniac Games this summer on Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, released exclusively on PlayStation 3 this week.

North Carolina news station ABC 11 reports that Kessel was riding a scooter Monday afternoon in Raleigh, North Carolina when a man struck her with his vehicle and fled the scene. The suspect, 23-year-old Michael Deontea Jones, has been arrested and is being charged with felony hit and run and with driving without a valid license.
