Ratbag Games has today announced that it's working on a sequel to the 1998 arcade racing game Powerslide for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC. Powerslide Slipstream, which is scheduled for release toward the end of next year, is set in the year 2030 and will allow you to race through a total of around 16 postapocalyptic locales, including Sydney, London, Los Angeles, and Berlin.

You'll be able to drive around 14 different vehicles in the game, and, as the title suggests, you'll be able to gain extra speed by slipstreaming your opponents--effectively using their draft to build up your own turbo meter. The vehicles in the game will purportedly morph in relation to the action, but it's not yet clear how this feature will be implemented or what impact it'll have on the gameplay.

Ratbag Games is promising that Powerslide Slipstream will feature realistic physics and neural network AI that will see opponents running on the same physics and making the same mistakes that you might make from time to time. The game will also feature multiplayer support, and online play is currently under consideration.

Powerslide Slipstream is currently scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2004. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
