Random Encounter Live - Quake III Arena

Grab a railgun and blast your way through Quake III Arena with Danny and Martin.

Danny and Martin are warping back to a time of torturous dial-up internet connections for today's Random Encounter. id Software's Quake III Arena was one of the first shooters to focus solely on arena deathmatches, so you're in for plenty of reminiscing about that one time they launched themselves across a pit to railgun somebody on the other side with pinpoint precision.

Before I used to think how great it would have been to have the ps3 online when i was in my early teens, then i see Quake arena and remember how much of a blast i had on it.

Damn I loved Q3A on the Sega Dreamcast. Today I'm more of an Unreal Tournament or UT2004 fan. Though, I do own Open Arena (legal Q3A clone) with a slew of Q3A user-created maps. Warsow is another (free and oen-source) goodie.

@nate1222 i had both on the dc, they were both awesome. Back then i didn't really understand the online thing (not familiar with pc gaming either then) they were both very different games!! Sega did a cracking job with the pad mechanics too. Very fond memories on unreal (dc) i found quake a little difficult.

@itchyflop @nate1222  me too and you were able to cross platform on multiplayer too PC to DC, vice versa.  It wouldv'e been great if 3rd party devs were able to do that on all platforms.

@DESTROYRS_F8 @itchyflop @nate1222 ha no way i had no idea back then, i see now the dc ran on windows os !! if i d have known that i would have played against the pc boys !!! Ill bet it was difficult with the pad against keyboard !!! unreal would have been a scream, i only used to play locally or split screen !! I got to the final boss on unreal where he turns invisible on the ladder, brilliant game. Quake was a faster paced still good looking then harder game for me. ahhhh memories, i just wish id have been a little more mature and in the know when it came to pc ing and dial up, the online thing didnt occur to me !! f####ckkk !! :)
