Rainbow Six Vegas free on Xbox Live

2006 Ubisoft shooter now free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers through the end of the month.

Ubisoft's 2006 shooter Rainbow Six Vegas is now free (normally $20) to download on Xbox Live as part of Microsoft's Games with Gold promotion.

The game is free for all Xbox Live Gold subscribers through the end of the month. It replaces Magic 2013, which was free on Xbox Live from September 1-15.

Gamers in South Africa will receive Shadowrun instead of Rainbow Six Vegas, Microsoft said.

The free games are part of Microsoft's new Games With Gold program that gives Xbox Live Gold subscribers two free titles--to keep--each month until December 31.

Microsoft has not announced October's free games yet.

If anyone has not tried the Terrorist hunt mode I highly recommend it with a friend online. The enemies spawn randomly on the maps and it can be very challenging at times. One wrong move BAM! ur dead!

If you could choose between one cookie and that game, which one one would you pick? At least for me that cookie sounds a lot better.

A lot of hate on here for what is actually a quality title.

I'm a Sony gamer, but owned both of the Vegas games when they were released - thoroughly loved them to bits.

It may be old, and lacking somewhat compared to PS+ offerings, but it's still a damn decent game if you've never played it :)

It's free guys, and it's good.  Quit moaning!

Microsoft definitely knows how to show they like their customers.

I'm an Xbox owner and fan, but I'm not going to deny that this is just another disappointing title from MS. I know it's free, so technically there isn't much to complain about, but you'd think MS would make a little more effort to compete with Sony and what they have on offer.

yeah nobody wants inferior ports after paying for a "premium" service. Honestly, the majority would rather "rent" great games with + than own crap titles with gold. Especially since + subscribers will have zero desire to unsubscribe.

yeah microsoft! way to keep up with ps+ by releasing a 7 year old game for free!  it doesn't matter that nobody plays rb6 anymore, or that you can buy a used copy for <$5 dollars, because it's free because microsoft loves us!

in the way that naegleria fowleri loves brains.

I know its free, so I won't complain....much.

I'll just say that the only one of the free games that I've care enough to download was Crackdown.  One game I already had (Halo 3) because it came out YEARS ago, and the other ones I simply did not care enough about to download them even though they were free.

Oh wait,  I did also download Fable 3, but that game was so bad that I had forgotten about it already!

MS gets SOME points for trying, I guess, but there is SO much more than could have been done with this that its almost pathetic....

I love the way Microsoft says they offer more but give games that are crazy old and like $5 to buy now. Sony is giving away games that are less than a year old and AAA.

Last I read on GS, when they asked MS if they will continue the free games after the Xbox One launch, they said something like they are considering it.  So, that means it is not planned to continue this program after that point.

Just thought I would mention that in case anyone else thought it was definitely going to continue on a monthly basis for awhile.  I thought it was going to continue.

Ms really digging deep into their pockets for this one.

They can't all be winners.  Last month was definitely better than this month.  Hope October is much better.

This is like such a slap in the face to xbox gamers lol.  They can do way better than this, but once again MS are being a bunch of cheapskates.

Life isn't fair and neither are the rewards for Xbox Live Gold compared to Playstation Plus. Until now Gold never seemed so worthless.

I can't wait to be a member of PlayStation Plus for the PS4... I can actually get mordern games.

Plus I'm ok with them putting on old games for free because most of these games servers are dead due to age but they will pick back up again now.. Kinda like lost planet 2 when it was on sale online for like 5 bucks.. Now I have no problems finding matches

Great game, but I can get this game used for like $2...so it's not much of a bonus here. Still, since I've only owned part 2...it will be nice to go back and play this one.

Geezus... These fanboys on both sides annoy me.. Microsoft does something good and Sony hates on them... Sony does good n Microsoft hates on it.. If ur totally anti that other console y do u even click on links about it... Stick to what u like n leave the rest alone.. Me for one is a huge supporter of Microsoft but like most people who bitch they will end up getting both consoles anyways... I know I will

This game is a hoot to play, especially the terrorist hunt.  The dialogue for the enemies is hilarious to listen to.  Also, not to sound sadistic but I never get tired of throwing an incendiary grenade into a crowd of bad guys and hear them screaming like girls.

Okay, so it's a game from 2006.  It's still a FREE full-game!!!  If you already have it or don't want it, then don't download it.  For those of us who didn't pick it up the first time around, however, it's not a bad deal.

Geez, you'd think that the people complaining about it would complain about finding $5 in a jacket they haven't worn in a while because it was only $5!

gosushi

@warhawk-geeby Xbox gamers like myself are disappointed that MS isn't making more of an effort to compete with Sony. Offering a $5 game for free after you've purchased a gold membership and chewed up a substantial amount of your download data just doesn't quite cut it for many.

@wooooode TBH Sony doesn't "give"  away games, they rent them as long as you pay for PS+.

@ninjaroach81 The problem is these games were suppose to be to show Microsoft's appreciation of the Gold Subscribers. So in reality we paid for them long ago. But to show appreciation a with 6 year old game? Slap in the face. That seems to be what you just don't get. If they were just games be giving out it would be different. It's like someone giving you clothing for christmas when you wanted a toy instead.

wooooode

Yes this is true, but you have to pay for the Xbox games in a similar fashion.

warhawk-geeby

@deathstream @Death_Masta187 Doubt your subscription would lapse if you intend on migrating to the PS4.. What with online now being charged for.

Valid point, but the value of PS+ far outweighs the need to cancel the subscription.  The 'rental' argument is just a tad useless in all honesty.

gamer7736

@andrew01093 @ninjaroach81 I'd prefer they not give anything away for free, but rather sell the game at a discount with loads and loads of DLC. Maybe even make you buy a Kinect for it to function. This way, they can use the money to make new games and create jobs.

ninjaroach81
ninjaroach81

@andrew01093 So, would it be better if they didn't give anything away?  And it's not as if all the games they're giving away are bad; hell, they gave away Assassin's Creed 2, which is probably the best one of the series!  And it's not as if R6 Vegas is regarded as a bad game; it's just an older one.  That doesn't make it any worse.  It's still something that's being given to us for free; complaining that it's not new enough or that you don't think it's good enough makes you sound very entitled, that you think you deserve better.  As for your analogy about the Christmas gifts, complaining about getting clothing instead of a toy would be the reaction of a child; most adults wouldn't complain about the quality of a gift.
