This strategy-simulation features new Dreamcast-exclusive elements such as a full 3D game engine, VMU support, and a streamlined interface and financial structure. All the elements of the PC version and the Second Century expansion pack are also in the game, including 67 levels, 40 cargo types, and 60 train engines.

"Railroad Tycoon II was one of our biggest sellers on the PC platform, and we're proud to have the Dreamcast version as the first title in our console publishing line, " said Frederick Jones, senior console marketing manager at Gathering of Developers. "We expect that console gamers will love the new graphic and online multiplayer enhancements we've made to this PC classic."
