Rage 'The Scorchers' DLC inbound?

Trophy listings suggest id Software's 2011 first-person shooter adding new content, possibly to include "Ultra Nightmare" difficulty.

by

id Software's first-person shooter Rage may be more than one year old, but it appears new content is in the pipeline for the game. PS3Trophies.org reports that ten new Trophies are coming to the shooter, half of which focus on a new job path titled "The Scorchers."

In addition, one Trophy is awarded to players who finish the game on "Ultra Nightmare difficulty," suggesting the expansion brings a new level of challenge to Rage.

A representative with publisher Bethesda was not immediately available to comment.

This is not the first time "The Scorchers" has been tied to Rage. A PEGI listing from earlier this year first revealed the content. For more on Rage, check out GameSpot's review.

Rage was perhaps the best looking game of the year ruined by stupid marketing.   Like the title, which had absolutely nothing to do with what happened in the game.

rented this game when it came out and nothing was very innovative. One thing that turned me away was when i was playing and started doing the first few quests, there was a sewer and It warned me to be really ready if i go in because it's hard. I was like ooOOh. I decided to wait till i had better weapons and when i came back it said i needed to buy the dlc...I said fk you and i stopped playing. I didn't want to come across anything and it stop me, guns loaded, to say i need to pay more money.

Any chance this DLC is an attempt to get people to revisit the base game, because they've made some dramatic improvements to it?  Because if it's just plain old tacked on new content DLC, then uh yeah, good luck with that.

The game was decent but to be honest it was incredibly forgettable.

I love linear games like Doom 3, but despite being "open-world" RAGE felt *unforgivably* linear to me.

The shooting was solid and the bugs were few and the graphics were great and the optimisation was even better... but the JUNK these people came out with was absolutely some of the worst I've *ever* heard in a game.

"Go there" "get the thing" "hurry" "bring the thing back" "well done" "damn i forgot the other thing" "go get the other thing" "hurry" "go press the button on the thing" "there isn't much time" "hurry" "i KNEW you'd be good at pressing the thing" "i know a guy who has the thing" "go meet the guy with the thing" "hurry" "you're the only person who can retrieve the thing" "go collect all the things" "bring them back here" "good job bringing the things but they're useless without the other thing" "go get the last thing" "you have to hurry" "there isn't much time".

Like holy *crap* id, who *writes* this stuff?

This game was awesome in my opinion. I beat it on the hardest difficulty on the second time around. I'm guessing from reading these comments I liked it a lot more because I barely saw any of the game (or the hype) before I bought it. I just heard about it from some friends and decided to check it out. So Rage with no hype = great game.

a little to late with this game...this game was okay...one of the biggest overhype game of this gen (look at the graphics, its running at 60fps)

Was excited about this game when i first heard about it in 2008.It was slated to be the the first blu ray game for PC but that never happened and when the game did appear it was in my opinion a train wreck of a game great graphics with poor gameplay but i completed it anyway and uninstalled it straight after lol.

Uh, um, you really gonna come with DLC more than a year after you come out with a highly anticipated flop of a game? O.K. go for it. I hope you learn your lesson if you don't sell the DLC.

I wasn't sure about this game when I first saw it at E3 2011. Since the price is cheaper, I decided to get it a few days ago. I think it's okay at best. It does do some things beautifully right, but also disgustingly wrong too. It's no Wolfenstein, Doom, or Quake, but I still find it fun to play.

I'm looking forward to the DLC since I do find RAGE to be a compelling game from ID, and I would love to play some more.

Wow, this (hopefully) gives me a reason to dust this game off.  Glad I didn't sell it.

been playing RAGE most of the last month or so. While i didn't think it was worth 60 when i tried it after 1st coming out, i liked it quite a bit but ended up waiting till it priced-dropped significantly. Now wish i wouldn't have waited quite so long as i've been having even more fun with it than b4. And loving the road rage modes which i didnt try at launch because for some odd reason almost every critical review i read bashed them. Sure the game has a few issues but i think it's still has a lot going for it. Will prob. Check out this dlc if it actually comes out.

one year ago someone posted here that rage sucked real bad \ he or she also said that id software is a bunch of tech wizards and they can create a game engine but can not make a good game around it \ well, whoever you are - i hate you \ now every time i see carmack i go - this wizard can not make a game! \ goddamnn it \ so annoying \ I'm not even sure I agree with you \ i think it had something to do with wording or maybe magic or rather wizardry \ just get out of my head \ please \ just say it`s not so \ since then you've already ruined doom 3 bfg edition for me \ oh, and before they release doom 4 would be great \ thanks \ )

Unless the DLC expands on the ending IE Broken Steel for Fallout 3. There is no point. The game was a great looking shooter and fun, but the ending felt rushed and short.

Come one Rage wasn't that much of a game why would anybody buy its DLC it was just a big let down.i had difficulty making myself end the game cuz the game is not encouraging at all...and i thought  id had better stuff to do like working on DOOM 4 and Pray 2?or they just want to F.CK those 2 up?

It feels beyond odd to have the first DLC for a game more than a year after it has been released.

Rage felt like a tech demo. Sure, it was fun and engaging, but...meh.

Why was Rage disappointing? When a game has you walk a linear path in one mission and a few missions later you do that exact same linear path in another mission, except backwards, it just shows that not a lot of thought or time was put into it. Rage started out ok and I was enjoying it but about half way through it was clear they started taking short cuts and then by the end, which came along entirely too quick, it just dribbled off like they ran out of money or something. I traded it in a long time ago. It was nothing like I expected it to be from all the pre-release information that was given. It was short, unimaginative, and lazy. Releasing a DLC this far after release on a game like this shows that they really don't have a clue. They should have put those resources into a new game that would hopefully make up for what the first game failed to be.

Why? Leave the dead game dead.... ID needs a new dead horse to flog...

I think Rage was merely a great game, but the story could have had a little more put into it; same for the characters, the atmosphere felt like it needed only a slightly more emphasis, and the ending was pretty unexceptional. If this could somehow add a little more to all that on a plus side, that'd be cool, but I don't think that's what's going to happen.

It seems awkward to even add anything to this game by now, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. I think this is supposed to be about a tribe that wasn't put into the final game. I am also not interested in a new difficulty. Doom 3's nightmare was terrible because to me it just seemed like a joke with how you lose health no matter what; if this is what that's going to be, I'm not going to play that.

I hope if the DLC comes out, it's good. I would actually really like to see a sequel with the improvements where necessary.

rage was amazing, I picked up the game recently after buying my i7 2600k with a ud7-b3 motherboard and what was high end at the time which was a gtx570. I was able to increase the textures by about 200-400% using a small hack and honestly I still feel like it was one of the best looking games I've ever played.  The steampunk overall design/aeshetic was really cool too along with the general shooting engine. Dunno what people are complaining about. It was a couple of years between the e3 announcement and the release, i followed the whole thing and was reasonably pleased.

Too little, too late, in my book.

Just get on with making Doom 4, and make it worth while.

Rage was a really good game with a bad ending and some rendering issues on PS3 (might be fixed?). For any who haven't played it, it's only $12 used at Gamestop. Great deal. I'll be checking out this DLC even if it's a year late.

I thought this game sucked. Nice graphics, weak everything else. Typical of id, they just make glorified tech demos to sell game engines. But Epic has been doing that for the same length of time and has great games in comparison. Haven't really like anything from id since Quake 3 Arena.

I loved this game. Old School FPS with a touch of new, it was awesome. Too bad the PC version was a crappy port of consoles. This game was made to be on PC. With that said I hope they don't make the same mistake with doom 4. Put it on PC first then crap out the console version Id!!

@NTM23 I actually beat it twice for the 100% trophy, and i can't even really remember what the plot was? You don't kill the main badguy they mention I dont think (I assumed he would be the end boss) you just fight some super made military mutants at the end, it was very anti-climactic... But yeah i forget why you did what you did? I know it was like "the empire vs rebels" kinda thing, but I dont know what the empire was doing..... They were collecting some data off pre-comet humans, but I forget why....

@billlabowski RAGE was definitely the biggest gaming let down of 2011 for me. So much hype and so little was delivered. That was the game that killed my faith in John Carmack and ID Software. He even admitted that the PC version suffered a lot because of outdated console hardware, there were AMAZING tech videos before the game came out, and when they finally released it, it was a watered-down, neutered version of what we were told we would get. Now Carmack is working on the Oculus Rift, I'm hoping he will once again do something special for gaming with that but I'm not going to hold my breath.

@PixelAddict  @Tripwolf I agree that I loved it, but the pop in every time you turn around was basically unacceptable for the time/money/hype they put into this game. And the underpopulated world was a little boring (my issue with Borderlands #1 as well, not sure if they fixed that in #2). If you ran into someone they were just standing around in one spot forever. I did like it though, and platinum trophied it! But yeah some stuff like the car stuff (multi-player and races) was not for me. But I loved the co-op levels. Overall i'd say people should play it, I get being disappointed at $60 maybe? But I had fun. Especially when you use the money glitch (sell rockets back to store at a profit). I would buy #2 for sure!

billlabowski
billlabowski

@Psycold Ah yes, he was throwing out information on his beloved IDTech5 for years talking about how PC will pave the future. Then, when they finally showed (PC) footage of the game he was all about the consoles and how they are the future and PC are the past. Look at the horrible sales of Rage compared to Indie PC games that sell twice as many copies more than Rage did on all platforms. I have some faith in the Oculus Rift, it looks very promising, and I'm glad that Carmack is not at the helm calling the shots. His day has passed, and sucking up to PC gamers at QuakeCon didn't seem to help him much.

 @HIT3kNology

It's when a game is developped on a certain console first and then tweaked around to run on other platforms which results most of the time in crappy performances/bugs/framerates etc.

XZeroKPS

@HIT3kNology   I don't know the fact that it was a crappy port and Carmack pretty much implied that it was and apologized profusely about it. Just that whole thing, really. I'm sure you can find the interview somewhere. It's no secret.
