Activision has announced that it will release its upcoming rally racing game, Race of Champions, for the Nintendo GameCube. The game, which is being developed by European studio Climax, is based on the Michelin Race of Champions event held annually in the Canary Islands. Rally cars from several real-life manufacturers, including Mitsubishi, Toyota, Ford, Lancia, Peugeot, Audi, Porsche, and Citreon, will be featured in the game. Additionally, players will be able to race using legendary drivers such as Tomi Makkinen and Armin Scwartz.

"Race of Champions' breathtaking graphics and frenetic action will find a perfect home under the hood of the Nintendo GameCube," said Julian Lynn Evans, vice president European Studios at Activision. "With the addition of our SKU for Nintendo GameCube, Activision is poised to deliver a racing blitz across all three next-generation platforms when the game ships later this year."

Race of Champions will also be released for the Microsoft Xbox and the Sony PlayStation 2.
