Rabbids run with Wii Balance Board

Ubisoft teaser trailer indicates possible new madcap party game will make use of Wii Fit peripheral.

With the launch of the Wii in 2006, Ubisoft's Rayman series careened into a decidedly off-kilter direction, abandoning its platformer roots with a new focus on zany minigames. A launch title for the platform, Rayman Raving Rabbids was praised as one of the first games to cleverly put to use the Wii's motion-sensing technology. However, the second installment, released a year nearly to the day later, was met with markedly less enthusiasm.

A curious Rabbid at play in the wild.

It now appears as if Ubisoft has a mind to bring the Rabbids back for another go-around, once again taking on Nintendo's new peripherals. The publisher today released a teaser trailer titled "Rabbids Secrets to Health and Happiness." While no details accompanied the teaser, the trailer makes much ado of the Wii Balance Board, with one of the series' patently insane Rabbids attempting to consume the board for its dietary value.

A handful of developers have been testing the waters on Nintendo's Balance Board, which will be available as part of the $90 Wii Fit on May 21. In March, THQ said its interactive cheerleading game All-Star Cheer Squad would make use of the device, and Namco Bandai revealed earlier that month that We Ski would also make use of the board.

The "Rabbids Secrets to Health and Happiness" trailer is available on Ubisoft's official site.

Ubisoft needs to make a mini-series/movie/syndicated program about the Rabbids. I mean, most people prefer watching them be idiots to playing their games. I know I was having more fun watching cutscenes than actually playing Rabbids 2.

Love the rabbids, they are hilarious!

I love the part in the video when the rabbid screams and the TV falls on it's head!

@ Epaul: Yeah, I love the Rabbids, and both of their games (Yes, even 2) but releasing them too soon after each other might make people get tred of them too quickly. And yes, I do think the Rabbids series and the Rayman series need to split off from each other so that our armless/legless/neckless hero can have his own platformer again.

Meh. Rabbids were cool at first but now their stupid faces annoy me. Plus the games were average at best.

The first game was amazing. the second game sucked. Now it's just getting old. Where's the platform rayman games? All of those kicked ass! Rayman needs to be a platformer again.

Lol! That trailer reminds me of something that Pixar would sprew up.

I liked teh first game but the second was a half-assed rushed cash in. The third better improve and do more than just add the balance board or I'll pass. That means Ubisoft should get off their ass and put some online play in it.

Like Gravidtron said... Can they just cut the "Rayman" name off the Rabbids franchise? And I think it's time for Rabbids to have their own "serious" (plataform-adventure-stuff) game!!

Can we just have a Rabbids game minus that no-personality bit player Rayman? Anyone could star in that game, it should at least have Mii support...

I enjoy the multiplayer Rayman Raving Rabbids games, but like Gamer-XZ said, I wouldn't mind playing a new Rayman platformer. Its been a long while since a Rayman platformer has been created and released.

So, this will be RRR 3 basically? I think it'll be as good as the first two, I guess. Though, I wonder if we'll ever get an actual Rayman platformer again?

could be good, if it does make good use of the Balance Board.

I like it when his he screams hehe... and his head... teehee gets smashed by the TV. Anyway, I hope it's going to be better than the second one. I think it would be funnier if someone threw a Wii Remote and Nunchuk at his face and he lost an eye. Irony?

I LOVE IT! I'll be getting this at launch for sure. The first Rabbid game was terrific, 2 was a not as polished as far as gameplay but did carry over the humor. If they're able to show off the Balance Board like they showed off the Wiimote and chuck at launch this is going to be one great title.

Enough with the minigame/party games already. How about a non-simplified game? They made Mario and Zelda an easy game too...

What did you expect? Developers turn on autopilot and make minigame collections for the Wii in their sleep.
