R.B.I. Baseball 14 appears on Xbox Marketplace with April 9 release date

After a 20-year absence, a new R.B.I. will be here soon.

R.B.I. Baseball 14 will release on Xbox Live Arcade on April 9, according to the product description posted to Xbox.com.

The game’s official Twitter account stated that it has not made any official announcements on the release date yet, but that it will very soon.

R.B.I. Baseball 14 brings the series back after a 20-year absence. R.B.I. Baseball 95 was the last entry in the series, which launched in 1994 for the Sega 32X.

Major League Baseball (MLB) is developing R.B.I. Baseball 14 in-house, tasking its own Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) unit to create the game. MLBAM's other duties include managing the official MLB website and websites for the league's 30 teams.

It says that the game will have modern graphics but stay true to the franchise’s roots with a classic two-button control style. R.B.I. Baseball 14 will feature all 30 MLB teams and 480 active players with characteristics based on MLB’s statistical database. MLB also said you can play through a game in 20 minutes and choose between Exhibition, Season, and Postseason modes.

R.B.I. Baseball 14 is set to release on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and mobile devices.

You can tell the people that are too young to have owned an NES and played RBI and Bases Loaded for hours. The ones that approach the new game with contempt because it isn't as realistic as the show or the fps isn't high enough and the graphics aren't top notch. It's a fun game guys. I'll still hook up the NES and pop in RBI and play it with my friend. Sure, all the players look the same and every fielder moves in unison when you press a direction, but it's fun, and that's what matters.

(Of course I'm excited to get the show on my ps4 too, no reason you can't be excited for both.)

Also, why are you guys comparing a DLC arcade baseball game to The Show? Are you saying that The Show is just a joke? They are not even in the same category. That is like putting Rusty's Real Deal Baseball into the running, just because it has a bat and ball.

I stumbled upon the news about 2 months ago by accident. I am excited to see a release date now. This is my favorite baseball series and one of the few sports games on my top 100 list. I just hope the arcade style holds up in this new intricate age.

All I want to do is hit HR's into the drink!!  Every ball park should have 5-7 different signature landmarks.  Forget 1000's of swings to match players....give awesome animations in the bleachers when you hit it 420+ feet!!!

RBI14!! i hope it's called that because of the year rather than the version.....still having the floppy disks for RBI 2 on the Amiga is making me fell rather old.

Had some good times with RBI and Based Loaded, waaaaaaay back in the day.

Might just pick this one up.

This was one of my favorite old-school baseball games, along with Bases Loaded and Baseball Stars. FINALLY, a game that's simplistic and fun. All modern sports games have gotten so damn complicated.

R.B.I Baseball 14 is no match for MLB 14 the show. Looking at the screen shots rbi baseball looks like a xbox 360 game. MLB 14 the show has superior and gorgeous realistic graphics and fantastic gameplay

I'm going to miss "My Player" mode from the MLB 2k games :/

Mario baseball on the gamecube was the funnest, albeit simplistic, baseball game ever. I never played RBI but if it's similar to Mario baseball I'd buy it.

See this is how you make a sports game, you don't need one EVERY year *cough* CoD *cough*. Now just look at R.B.I it will be not much different than the 94' game (better graphics I hope) but look at all the people that run out and buy Madden, NBA, FIFA, or even Nascar each year. What are you buying in 2014 that you don't already own from the 2011 game?

ALL of the "new" stuff should be an update or at best $2 DLC. OOOHHH they added John Doe's new hair cut or now you can see camera flashes in the stands (btw taking a pic with the flash of something 50 yards away doesn't help the picture come out brighter.) This is the same with CoD, make it a $5-$10 DLC and let me keep my old game plus use my old maps along with 5 or 10 new maps.

If gamers would quit buying the exact same crap they already had 5 game disc ago developers would quit making crap. Make one game like a fps, have 10 to 15 maps come with the game, then ever mouth come out with two more maps, one perk, one gun, and one accessory (knife, grenade, mine, bear-trap or something) then nickle and dime people for 5 years while updating the graphics as you can (for free). I would go back to CoD if I could use my $700 worth of maps I bought for all the games.

The graphics were better on Nintendo....

Is that a screenshot from the 32X version?

Sounds like over simplified junk. I read R.B.I. and I instantly remember cocking the bat to half swing before a pitch and still hitting homers.

It was junk then, looks like more of the same, really.

Graphics aren't the best, but it might be fun. Haven't played a baseball game since MLB 2k6 I think. I find it pretty boring sport to watch, us Canadians would rather hockey. And speaking of hockey, I can't wait to see how the first current gen offering looks and plays on X1 & PS4.

So sad that this is my only baseball option as an Xbox owner. Here's to EA Sports picking up the MLB license.

No Thanks. I hate playing Sports games besides Mario Sports such as Golf and Tennis.

Just a few days left and no videos or new screenshots to show off (ala NBA Live 14). Does not look good.

Looks like another NBA Live 14 ending... In others words, a FAIL.

@lifer124  I hear you on that but I was always more into the old hardball series with it's nerd stats lol. Rbi was always fun with other players though and my other favorite didn't even use real players baseball stars.

@Vodoo  I remember playing Bases Loaded, with the updating statistics and biorhythm tracking... genre breaking at the time. Good memories.

It's not meant to compete with The Show. This is a dlc arcade game, not a full retail sim like The Show.

TheMudora

@deadpen That argument is really invalid. Just because they went to sleep for 20 years doesn't mean they were spending every waking hour of their lives working on a DLC baseball game. Do you know how many RBI games there were? One every year back in the day. This could possibly be a game they made in '98 but updated with better graphics.

@deadpen  You know people don't have a clue and just have the camera on auto, right? :)

@nparks  Have you guys ever seen a 32x game?

Honestly, RBI Baseball was never about graphics, it was about gameplay.  I think it looks fine.

@slicedbread117  Damn shame you can't play MLB The Show.  Such a great series, and gets better every year.

Bazongaman502
Bazongaman502

@deadpen @broly180  I don't think it is. Look at the 2 players on the bottom right corner. Both weren't playing back in 1994-1995. Let alone Detroit's logo is the new version. the 94 version was a Tiger with the letter D.

@DrKill09 @nparks  unfortunately yes I have I was young and did not realize it was a genesis add on that was my last sega console bought at it's launch though.

Yeah but MVP was one of their premiere franchises before they stupidly gave away the rights. They made a fantastic baseball game and then they threw it away. It was probably their best sports series.

@rabbitcancer @slicedbread117 Fifa 14 plays good. I give 1 *uck about looks when gameplay is imperative. Look at PES franchise looks good but has shi**y gameplay.

rabbitcancer

@notorious98 @rabbitcancer @slicedbread117  Actually - MLB 2k12 (one I owned) was a really good baseball game.  The pitching mechanics were arguably better than The Show.  My issue is: EA Sports isn't what it once was imo.  The NHL games are marginal improvements and still quite buggy graphics-wise.  I also tried the NBA 14 demo for PS4 and that was just awful (2K flattens EA on that one).  Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see EA really do well with MLB but they are starting from scratch - and considering some of their mature titles still have issues, I'm not high on confidence - especially when it comes to their servers, for a start.

PSP107
PSP107

@SNESNOSTALGIA They didn't thrown away the rights. In response to EA securing the NFL, 2K bought the rights to be the only 3rd party to make MLB games. 2K and EA wanted NBA but NBA wanted a open market so 2K had to settle on baseball.

rabbitcancer
rabbitcancer

@R2C25 @rabbitcancer @slicedbread117  Fifa 14 looks like shit on next-gen.  As for gameplay, I'll accept it is the best but then Professional Football (european) is bullshit anyway - I don't know how people can support it until they bring in salary caps and replay cameras to rid the leagues of overpaid primadonna divers.  I sure as hell ain't going to put more money into the clubs by buying their b.s. game.
