The Quebec provincial government has threatened to sue Nintendo and Sony if the companies do not provide French-language versions of their games by New Year's Eve. French-language minister Louise Beaudoin told reporters on Thursday that after 18 months of discussion with representatives from the two companies she has threatened not to allow the games into Quebec (Canada's only French-speaking province).

"I am launching an ultimatum," said Beaudoin. "I conclude that it is time to act and to consider that negotiations have not been successful. The law must be applied."

So far, Beaudoin has only stated a legal warning, but she will file suits, if need be. "I hope we will not reach that stage,'' she continued.
