Quantic Gaming CEO accused of owing thousands to eSports players, staff

The team's top StarCraft II player claims he's owed $23,000.

One of the team's top StarCraft II player Ko "HyuN" Hyun says that North American eSports company Quantic Gaming's former CEO Simon Boudreault owes him $23,000 in salary and prize money. The Daily Dot reports that Boudreault owes other Quantic Gaming team members a cumulative $40,000.

The 23-years-old Canadian Boudreault has been missing since Dec. 17. The last time one of Quantic's staff spoke to him, Boudreault said he was going to get a biopsy on a lump on his lung, saying there a good chance it would be cancerous. No one has seen or spoken to him since, but Boudreault hasn't paid players for months prior. Hyun suspects that Boudreault has simply spent all of his savings.

Boudreault, who previously owned eSports team 4Not, acquired the Quantic Gaming brand in February 2013. The Daily Dot's in-depth piece on Quantic Gaming makes it clear that it's been mismanaged for a long time.

While its CEO may be gone, it seems as if the Quantic Gaming twitter account is still maintained by volunteers, who are also supporting Hyun in his efforts to raise money for legal representation.

Give him his money ASAP! Don't you see his face and look? He's obviously someone you wouldn't mess with...

Don't know why, but I wonder, how about the rest of his teammates? Because I'd rather back the team than the top player (seems like an ambition to fulfill his own ego)

If he is under contract, legally he has to be paid. If the guy is broke, the court will just order restitution, and let's face it, the only people who get the restitution money are the government. I am owed restitution from some ass hat who hit my car, $900. It has been 7 years and I haven't seen a dime.

Seems like there are a lot of jealous whiners in the comments. As I understand it, pro players have training and exercise schedules and even controlled diets in order to perform at peak efficiency. That sounds like work to me.

Regardless of what you think of "esports" this guy won money and they aren't paying out. If I won a lottery even a small one I would be ticked if they didn't pay me, because "I didn't earn it".

surprised to see that even gamers dont like esports. BTW esport players earn multiple times more than a normal job in my country.

i think the joy and appeal of video games becomes lost when it stops being a fun hobby

This is very tragic, we should all start a trustfund to help this person.

Am I the only one who thought they were talking about Quantic Dream. I was like since, when are the Heavy Rain makers involved in e gaming? How the hell did Qunatic get away with using that as name, especially because they are in the same field of work video gaming?

This is still his job, and he still deserves to be paid for the contract he is fufilling. Why are so many of you saying "nah, doesn't matter." when it most certainly does.

JokeSports.

Maybe he'd get paid a ludicrous amount for playing a game after he changes his hair and stops looking like he's about to hang himself.

Good day.

@Tao_and_Zen I was with you until the controlled diets comment. I dont think Mountain Due and doritos counts as a "controlled diet".

@Klikandclick

I completely agree. I can't name a sport that's no longer sport, but a business. Even for bets-addicted fans.

@xXxIRyanxXxSports are also games, dude. If playing games isn't a sport, then by your definition, "sports" also aren't sports. Heck, even the Olympic Games, which have more "real" sports (ie. competitions rooted in ancient combat styles like wrestling, jumping, and running) then what many people believe are "sports", still has "games" in the title.

And let's face it, a lot of those digital junkies can do a heck of a lot more real damage in a digital war than any dudebro in a football jersey ever could.

@grove67 Then we'll put a real chess player in a boxing ring with a heavyweight champ. It could be a new hit reality show. We'll call it "When things don't make sense".

@xxmavr1kxx  I saw a show a few years ago about S. Korean pro gamers and they certainly had strict diets, along with daily exercise and gaming sessions. Maybe in the States it's more the Doritos and Mountain Due diet. :-D

@xsonicchaos@Klikandclick I gave up on "pro" sports in the early 90's when the NBA morons went on strike.  The comments coming out of the players mouths just stunned me, like one homie had to sell 5 of his benzos to make ends meet, while another guy had to cut his chillin money from 10k a nite to 1k....  I'm not sure if I have completed watching a full game since then.

@frylock1987 Well yeah, but you have to be in a union to do that. A lot of us work for independent companies.
