Rumors have been flying around the Web this morning that id has completed Quake II and is set to push it to manufacturing, which is the final process before it lands on shelves nationwide.

GameSpot News called the source of all information that is id, Barrett Alexander, to discover that id Software completed the gold (or final version) of Quake II at about 2pm Pacific time Monday.

Although Alexander wouldn't comment on an exact date of release, he said that Activision (the company in charge of publishing the CD-ROMs that will hold Quake II) would be making an announcement soon about when gamers can pack into software stores to buy the highly anticipated sequel.

Id and Activision will be throwing an invitation-only gala premiere in LA this weekend. GameSpot News will be on the scene to record who gets fragged.
