The Nintendo 64 gets its second puzzle game with Compile's popular Puyo Puyo series.

The Nintendo 64 will be getting its first puzzle game in the US next Monday when Tetrisphere is released, and a second one is on the way.

Compile has announced that it is developing a version of its popular puzzle series Puyo Puyo for the N64. If you have played Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on the Genesis or Game Gear, or Kirby's Avalanche for the Super Nintendo, you've played Puyo Puyo.

To be released in October, Puyo Puyo Sun 64 has several N64-specific features. First off is Rumble Pak compatibility. When your opponent sends some Ojama Puyo (garbage blocks) your way, you feel the rumble as they slam down on your side.

The game has five different modes of play, but unfortunately it doesn't have a four-player simultaneous mode. In tournament mode, up to 16 players can compete in a battle royale with two players going head-to-head at once. There's also a one-player story mode and a Puyo Problem mode in addition to standard one- and two-player game modes.

Incidentally, the word "Sun" in Japan is also a homonym for "three." Puyo Puyo Sun, which used to be exclusive to the Saturn, is the third game in the series. Puyo Puyo Tsu was the second game in the series - Tsu being close to the English word for two and meaning expert in Japanese.
