PSP peripherals dated, priced...in Japan

Famitsu reveals $43 Chotto Shot Camera and $51 GPS receiver will go on sale in November and December, respectively.

by

According to Famitsu.com, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced release dates and prices for two major peripherals for the PlayStation Portable.

A PSP camera, called the Chotto Shot in Japan (PSPJ-15003), and the creatively named GPS Receiver (PSP-290) will go on sale on November 2 and December 7, respectively. The camera will sell for 5,000 yen, about $43, while the GPS kit will cost would-be backseat drivers 6,000 yen, around $51. Sony Computer Entertainment has not yet announced US or European prices or dates for either add-on.

The Chotto Shot will ship with editing software for tweaking stills and movies. In addition to helping lost gamers find their way around, the GPS Receiver will be incorporated into games by both Sony and third parties, including Konami's Metal Gear Solid; Portable Ops. Both peripherals will be shown off at the upcoming 2006 Tokyo Game Show, which starts September 22.

No thank you especially if it is only a 1.3mp camera, and since when did I need GPS for my PSP?? I'll keep an open mind once there released, but right now I'm not interested at all!

Hey marcherxp im not a sony hater, I just tell the truth. The psp wouldn't have sold as much it weren't for its multimedia capabilities. And just like reaLink said, the big N has more than just mario. "Phoenix Wright, Trauma Centre, Kirby: canvas Curse, Nintendogs, Brain age, Animal Crossing, Sonic Rush" and yeah i copied that from his comment.

Those are some pretty cheap prices. However, I do not find either interesting, so I won't buy either. GPS might be interesting though.

It has to be more than 1.3mpx, but for that price you never know. At least they should offer a better resolution camera even if it costs a little more. The GPS will be very useful for drivers, I'm getting a car pretty soon so that's definitely on my wishlist. With an in-car charger of course.

I doubt the U.S one will be 1.3 mega pixels, we'll just have to wait and see.

cool, this will go great with my new redesigned psp. but someone stated below that it looks like it only has 1.3mp. THAT is lame, my phone has better quality than that. but w/e.

I think I would buy the GPS reciever. I have always wanted one, but most are way to expensive. $51 in Japan means that it will probably be bellow $40 in the U.S.

EIToRo, what are you talking about? Thats cool if your a Sony hater, but seriously all DS has is Mario...thats it. I think the camera Will be a great addition so you do not have to go through the usual usb connecting or memory stick crap everytime you wanna load up some pictures.

Sorry. I'm not going to spend 200+ dollars on a gaming handheld that im going to use more for music, movies and and taking pictures. No wonder the DS has better games, Sony worries about everyone and everything except the hardcore gamer.

If the GPS add-on comes with navigation functionality, then it might actually be worth picking up a PSP ($200) and the GPS ($50) just for that alone since a decent GPS navigation device for your car will cost you about $300. This would match up with Sony's strategy of getting people to buy their gaming devices for everything except gaming (i.e. PS3 as a cheap Bluray player).

Okay, those are quite unnoticeable. They aren't clunky, or ugly. I like the camera especially. Oh, darn them for wooing me out of my hard earned cash yet again. I mean if they are worth anything quality speaking, and those Japanese prices translate to the UK and the US, those are gonna sell really well I think.

skitzocyko GTFO t*rd. You're jealous bcoz PSP is getting cool devices and DS is getting jack sh*t. Just STFU.
