Sega finally announces a solid release period for its anticipated RPG, Phantasy Star Online.

Sega of America president and COO Peter Moore confirmed at the ZD Electronic Gaming Summit that Phantasy Star Online will not be released this year. Moore discussed the game as part of his presentation of the SegaNet network gaming service and announced that it will be released worldwide in Q1 2001. The game is fairly close to completion, however, and it could be in beta form before the end of the year.

Phantasy Star Online is the fifth game in the series and is being developed by Yuji Naka and Sonic Team. When it is finally released, it will be one of the first massively multiplayer console RPGs.
