PS5's Most-Downloaded Games In September Pitted MK1 Against Baldur's Gate 3 And NBA 2K24

Not even Scorpion was a match for the power of basketball and football.

Like several other months this year, September had no shortage of new and highly anticipated releases. On PlayStation, this was a month that was headlined by Baldur's Gate 3, Mortal Kombat 1, Lies of P, EA Sports FC 24, The Crew Motorfest, and Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion. But in the US and Canada, the most-downloaded PS5 game of the month was none of those titles, as NBA 2K24 laced up its shoes and scored a slam-dunk win in September.

This isn't exactly surprising, as 2K's NBA series is a top-seller whenever a new entry in the annual series is released. In the battle for second place on the PS5 downloads chart, Baldur's Gate 3 took silver and was followed by Mortal Kombat 1, EA Sports FC 24, Madden NFL 24 in that order. Shifting to the European market, EA Sports FC 24 was the most-downloaded PS5 game in that region according to Sony, an unsurprising result given the popularity of soccer in European nations.

Baldur's Gate 3 also took second place on the European charts, while NBA 2K24 settled for third place, The Crew Motorfest finished in fourth, and Mortal Kombat 1 came in fifth place. These results were largely repeated on PS4, as NBA 2K24 was again the most-downloaded game on that platform in the US and EA Sports FC 24 scored a first-place goal in Europe.

Interestingly, Marvel's Avengers saw a resurgence on PS5 across the world. It entered at 14th position in the US and Canada, and in Europe, it was the 13th most-downloaded PS5 game in September. With the game now officially delisted from console and PC storefronts, and its price significantly reduced for its definitive edition, this was a last hurrah for the Crystal Dynamics-developed Marvel live-service game.

Looking ahead to October, it's going to be an interesting month to see which games players gravitate the most toward. This month is loaded with heavy-hitters, with the biggest PlayStation game being the PS5 exclusive Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Peter Parker and Miles Morales will have their spider-work cut out for them, as even with a sequel that's shaping up to take the series in an exciting new direction, the duo will still be taking on Alan Wake II, NHL 24, Lords of the Fallen, and several other big games.
