PS4 will support cross-platform party chat

Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida confirms PlayStation 4 users can communicate with PlayStation Vita friends.

The PlayStation 4 will support cross-platform party chat, president of Sony's Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed.

Speaking on Twitter, Yoshida said "yes" to a question regarding whether or not it would be possible for a PS4 user to invite a PlayStation Vita friend to party chat.

Sony confirmed party chat for the PS4 late last month, but at the time did not give any specifics about the free service.

During Gamescom last week, Sony announced worldwide release dates for the PlayStation 4 and a price cut for the PS Vita, dropping the system down to $200.

As Sony does in PS3, like I said, in Dust 514, DC Universe and Portal 2. And PCs aren't Microsoft's. PC is a huge world, Camilo. It goes from Linux to iOS and from BSD to Windows. Microsoft's Windows is the most used OS, yes, but between that and saying that saying "PC" is the same that saying "Microsoft" there is a big step.

You realize PC is a microsoft product right? Btw, Microsoft already does that with some games... So yeah...

^ The first consumer release of a Blu-ray player was April 10, 2003. The Xbox 360 came out November 22, 2005.

Sony gives us something after MS yesterday ****ed us by getting rid of MS points. Oh and MS many people noticed you increased prices on things too with that update to marketplace. PS4 the only console I have preordered cuz I just could not stomach what MS is selling and that is ****.

Only certain games on PC can be cross-platform with PS4 at the moment.

Who the heck wants to cross-chat with people on Vita? And you can't even party chat on PS3 so that's not an option.

Geno Weaver

Hmmm who had a bluray drive first.. PS3. It took Xbox how many years to decide to place one in their console.

I don't care about chatting with people on Vita. I want to know if I can chat with my friends who are still gimping around on the Ps3.

@El Kamilo I wouldn't say it is a Microsoft product since it's only the OS and the parts are completely separate. There are others like Linux/Ubuntu and Mac (which doesn't count for gaming)

SUNDRAGONJ

@Anthony Pungitore Well that's a relief then since if you own the xbox one you're stupid anyways.

@Brian Eyekon Koehler What..? BluRay came out in 2003 while the 360 was released in 2005... Sounding like a fanboy there Brian, not gonna lie

@Gabe Carey It really isn't... why would anyone think cross-platform has to be between different companies.

Meta-Gnostic

@Matt Whitehurst Perhaps people who buy cross-play titles or perhaps anyone who decides to play PS4 games remotely on Vita?

@Geno Weaver Blu-Ray officially released in June 2006. Xbox 360 released November 2005. You idiot.

@SUNDRAGONJ I'd say if you own the Xbox One you're pretty smart. Because how did you get it? It's not even out yet, you crazy, smart guy!

Impetus94
Impetus94

@kwijeebou Sony still has the main patent on BluRay tech anyway. Easy there kwijeebou, ignorance is bliss. Just because mistakes are made doesn't make someone an idiot. Relax, take a chill pill.

LucentWolf

@FUlmineAnimus @LucentWolf You would think, however.. with companies nowadays, I just can't get behind that 100%. I mean I realize Sony isn't Microsoft, but you just never know what these companies may come up with to support the reasoning behind not include a feature that's easily implemented.
