PS4, PS3, PS Vita get cartoon-inspired vehicle combat game Cel Damage HD

Cel Damage HD revitalizes the original 2001 release.

Developer Finish Line Games announced it’s bringing the cartoon-inspired vehicle combat game Cel Damage HD to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita this spring

Originally developed by Pseudo Interactive and released in 2001 on Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube, Cel Damage was a vehicle combat game much like Twisted Metal, only with cel shaded graphics and a Looney Tunes approach to weapons and gameplay. It was not well received by GameSpot at the time, getting a score of 5.7 in our review.

Cel Damage HD will feature six playable characters, 13 arenas, 10 cars and more than 30 power-ups.

“As longtime developers we’ve always enjoyed games that meld the realm of video games with other, similar forms of entertainment,” co-founder of Finish Line Games Daniel Posner said. “With Cel Damage HD, we’re bringing back one of our favorite mash-ups of classic vehicle combat games and cartoon animation to give players the distinct experience of playing as if they are in a cartoon.”

Cel Damage HD will be Finish Line’s first game. It will be available as a Cross-Buy release on the PlayStation Store this spring.

I wish this game could be played cross-system through all the playstation consoles out now. Would really like to game with my friends that only have a PS Vita right now.

This game was one of the only reasons I owned a GameCube for a substantial amount of time... Brilliant!

We had so much fun playing this game on the Xbox. I can't wait to play it again on the new consoles.

Hmm. The only thing I remember about this was the dominatrix character. She had some good lines. Cheaper than those recorded sex lines... Um. Honestly though, I'm surprised this is being resurrected when it never really made much of an impact the first time.

I guess this will have to do since there is no Twisted Metal game for PS4 and PSvita. Never played this on PS2. So maybe I consider giving in a go.

Cel Damage was an awesome party game. Don't care if it was just a Twisted Metal ripoff. Four people playing that game was a blast.

i still have this game for my XBox somewhere. Why isn't this on XBLA as well? Not a big deal as I can get it for my PS3 or PS4, but the love should go to all platforms.

They had a similar game on the Dreamcast called Wacky Racers. I still have this game as well.

I remember this game. Repetitive, but great fun when played with a group of friends.

That game has actually a chance to get respectable salesnumbers on the PS4 :-)

There was potential here that was far beyond what the game realized. Who knows, maybe the playable version has yet to be seen.

Geez, this game is 13 years old? Cel Damage was a fun game that, unfortunately, grew a little old after a few short hours. It's only really playable with 3 other friends (in the same room). You spawn, kill someone, and then get smashed. Or just spawn and get smashed.

Man, I loved this game as a kid. Glad to see it's getting an HD remake.

One of the early Xbox games that made me really excited about gaming's future. 1-4 player split-screen with a bunch of bots in open but hectic arenas with multitude of modes. I expected it would become the norm, but after Fuzion Frenzy, Timesplitters and a couple of other games it just died out.

Where is the 4 player split-screen with bots in Halo, Forza, Saints Row, Fable, Ninja Gaiden...? Now it's just Bomberman and such, but that's so 90's.

@PrpleTrtleBuBum  None of the gaming companies care if you have real friends any more. They just figure you can play online with a bunch of 12 years olds and be happy.
