PS4, PS3 owners can try Call of Duty: Ghosts Onslaught DLC for free this weekend

Try before you buy.

If you own Call of Duty: Ghosts for the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 you can try the game’s Onslaught DLC for free this weekend.

The free trial period started yesterday, and will last until Monday, April 28 at 10 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

The Onslaught DLC pack contains four new maps--Fog, Bay View, Containment, and Ignition--and the Maverick dual assault rifle/sniper rifle. Fans of the co-op alien-fighting Extinction campaign, such as GameSpot's Shaun McInnis, will also be able to play the first chapter of the four-part DLC campaign.

If this offer sounds a little familiar, it’s because Activision, which has an exclusivity deal with Microsoft, gave Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners the same free trial back in March.

The Onslaught DLC costs $15, but you can also get the Season Pass for $50, which includes three more pieces of DLC.

Try a DLC for free?  That just seems odd to me.  Its the DLC like $10?  Why not just make it free?

I'll get it so I can just play as Michael Myers

I made the mistake of having hopes for this game after the first dlc and got it for it's price (Had no clue they would do a "try for free" thing) on Xbox so allow me to say to the PS people who might try this one... don't. Only Fog and Ignition are passable as maps. Other than those and the Extinction episode, it's garbage.

I don't want it even if it was for free

More games need to do this "Try Before you Buy"

I wish that instead of these free weekends they would just put these things on sale for $5 at some point when it is still the current COD game (usually they wait like 2 or 3 years later to have a decent sale).  $15 is way overpriced for 5 maps, and the obligatory zombie & alien maps are way too hard so they are kind of a waste.  And I get livid when they put mulitplayer map packs on deep discount for a game that's like 7 or 8 years old and nobody is playing it anymore.

I enjoyed the campaign (didn't have a very good story, or great characters, but it was fun), though I don't care to try this. No thanks.

Why would you want to own Ghosts in the first place?

@STrugglingFool  problem is a lot of DLC is short so it wouldn't work out for the developer in the long run.

@STrugglingFool  Except we need to have it BEFORE the dang release of dlc. Sort of like a beta testing of what we get.

I hate to tell  you this but COD: Ghosts has a better frame-rate on the Xbox One.

Bf4 is a really good game..

The problem is all the bugs and glitches.

It's an amazing game itself but bugs hold it back too much..

EA needs to learn nobody wants a broken game and micro transactions..

Because different people have different likes and dislikes and wants. And it looks like millions had a reason to get it.

@delta5931 Despite the releasing of COD's every year, none of them are terrible. I didn't much care for Black Ops myself, but I can see why it's worth having for some or many. Silly question.

Aaronp2k

@vorbzv  COD has fuzzy and blurred textures, even on next gen consoles. also has p2p which consists of lag due to poor hosts, interruption of matches with host migration (and sometimes the migration fails and kicks you out of the match).

bf4 may have issues but at least it has dedicated servers (which have recently been upgraded to solve rubber banding issues on 64 player servers). never have a match cut out on you half way through, never have to spend 5 minutes waiting for a game to start because players keep leaving and joining all the time in matchmaking screen, never have unplayable lag. also the graphics are true next gen and not complete garbage like cods. also the maps are much bigger not to mention more players and everything about the game is more realistic and not completely ridiculous.

even with its flaws bf4 smashes cod into the ground, just a shame the masses don't realise this because they are ignorant and stick to 1 franchise out of fanboyism.

@NTM23 @delta5931  The words "Call of Duty" and "none of them are terrible" do not belong in the same sentence. Unless you are comparing them to aids, then by comparison they don't seem so bad.

@crolin88

They don't suck, and they're still really good at the core thing they're trying to do, which is shooting, which feels good. I think with the latest one, it lacked in quality that some of the past ones didn't, and I just hope the sequels aren't handled with what felt like such little care. Ghosts just felt like "Yeah, this is what we've done before, let's just throw it in and people will be happy".

I acknowledge that fully, but I also think some of it that was there was still fun, but it's not completely acceptable. The only reason I actually got ghosts is because it was 30 dollars when I got a card with the PS4, and I wanted more PS4 games, otherwise I probably wouldn't have it. To my surprise, I enjoyed it more than I thought it would.

When I talk about Call of Duty, while I enjoyed the older WWII ones, especially one, I never talk about those anymore and mostly refer to ones from four up, so with that being said, the last ones I thought were great were the MW trilogy. I know some people dislike it because it was both too confusing, and too off the rails crazy for them, but two is what got me into it.

Three to me was great as well, but it was basically two again so the excitement was somewhat gone, somewhat, and I while I thought Treyarch did some interesting things with Black Ops, I didn't really enjoy them that much.

@delta5931 In most respects, I agree, but I didn't enjoy the campaign as much is all.
