PS4, PS Vita get 3DS eShop gem SteamWorld Dig in March

Image & Form announced that its platform mining adventure game will sell on the PlayStation Network for $10.

Developer Image & Form announced that its platform mining adventure game SteamWorld Dig will come to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in March for the price of $10.

It will support PlayStation's cross buy feature, meaning that you'll be able to play it on both devices when you buy it from the PlayStation Network.

SteamWorld Dig was originally released on the eShop back in August of 2013. It follows Rusty, a steam-powered mining robot, who ventures deeper and deeper into a mine to gather upgrades and uncover the secrets held far below. Part Spelunky and part Metroid, we thought that SteamWorld Dig was definitely worth playing. You can read our full review of the game here.

The announcement from Image & Form didn't specify how the PSN version of the game will differ from the 3DS version, but the developer already created a higher resolution version of SteamWorld Dig for the PC version, which also includes some additional content.

I like how indie studios are keeping 2D gaming alive. I'd hate to lose 2D completely from the industry. Or maybe I'm just getting old.

Well if you're a PS4 owner whose waiting for something good to play, you should definitely check this game out. Very worth it!

I don't buy indie games I always tend to hate them I do enjoy the obscure Japanese port now and again but eitherway I hope everyone enjoys the game though.

It is one of my fav eshop only games on the 3ds. Well worth getting. Though it is short it'll easily withstand a couple of playthroughs.

I played this on PC, and it's a really great game.  It's basically a Metroidvania but with lots of digging. :)  Everyone should check it out.

@Necrotron  That's awesome for P.C. gamers. I couldn't hold for a Playstation version of FEZ so I got mine on Steam, sadly I've become more of a console gamer so I'll be picking this up on PS4. Have fun with it & the discount offer though ^_^

@hadlee73  Plenty of none indie graphical 2D games made every year. Disgaea, Dragon's Crown, Blazblue, King of Fighters just to name afew examples. Overall I wouldn't worry about illustrative sprites dying in gaming. 3D takes the helm, but will never completely take over the entire industry.

With that said, indie games are very swwweeet, Steamworld will be on my PS4 as soon as it can be :)

@Micropixel  Indeed, however Strider very soon ^_^ and the week after Thief. . . We really need some decent exclusives coming sooner in 2014 haha.

Note- I don't wanna rush developers, nonetheless so far PS4 is lacking in decent exclusive gaming. 'Don't sell that PS3 just yet kids'

I'd personally like to see some gameplay from Shadow of the Beast. That game is very unknown.

@BlackBaldwin  Respect your opinion but seems you oddly throw all indie developers in the same boat. Do you see all AAA developers in the same light also?

Not all indie games play alike, or on the same level of quality. I personally enjoyed Guacamelee more than any AAA game I played in 2013.

Not sure how Japanese ports work in your comment?. . . Oh well as you were gamer.

@xolivierx  Even if it mining, if its decent why not go with it?

They all took ideas from Nes classic Spelunker anyhow, which had a decent HD port last gen.

Are Boulder Dash and Dig-Dug older than Spelunker? eh, they're more survival than mining anyhow.

@xolivierx it's nothing like MineCraft or Terraria. It's casual game, dig, collect, sell and buy upgrades. Looks like usual mobile game. Oh, btw, it's highly addictive O_o

@xolivierx  I enjoy Pocket Mine on android. But to answer your question, I suspect many are riding the coattails of MineCraft.

@Maxx_the_Slash I've heard of Metroid being an inspiration for this games back tracking, more likely Super Metroid. & I'm pretty sure Terraria follows from the Dig Dug/ Spelunker mold. Being much older games and all.

@hadlee73 It's my weekend game of choice till I get my final trophy :) loving the online and Tower of Mirages DLC.

Don't think anyone can complain with massive free DLC for a game haha? (kisses fist and raises to the sky) thanks Vanillaware, you guys are awesome ^_^
